Job overview

About Open Sky International

Open Sky International is a private bilingual English/French school, located in Boulogne-Billancourt, a suburb of Paris. Our vision is to provide a bilingual education of excellence, and our academic curriculum is built on the strongest aspects of a range of international programmes and teaching and learning methodologies. From the outset, we have high expectations of students and our curriculum is rigorous, broad and engaging. Classes are small and students are courteous, hardworking and motivated. We are a fully international school, welcoming French and expatriate families, and we are proud of our multicultural school community. Our staff at all levels are enthusiastic and passionate about education, and have a good understanding of best teaching and learning practices. Our school is still relatively young and is the first international school opened by OSI, an ambitious and innovative new education group based in Paris. Other OSI schools will open in other locations internationally over the next five years.

Who are we looking for?

We are now looking for a motivated, creative and hard-working primary teacher to deliver our French language curriculum in our equivalent of KS1 and KS2. The successful candidate will have native-level French.

French teaching is based on our internally developed curriculum and each class follows around two teaching days of French language courses weekly. The successful candidate would also teach our internal programme on the geography and history of France, to develop a real understanding and appreciation of French culture within our pupils. Some of the timetable may also involve supporting small groups of pupils who are new to the French language. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will contribute to OSI’s after-school programme and other curriculum enrichment activities.

The successful candidate will be:

• An excellent practitioner with high expectations for all students and committed to ensuring they reach their full potential.

• An inspiring professional who excites his or her classes and is experienced in teaching English, mathematics and science at primary level.

• Enthusiastic and passionate about education, with a good understanding of best practice.

• Able to demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge and the capacity to teach all subject areas with confidence.

• Able to support and promote the values of the school.

• Eager to discover new cultures and ideas, and open to the challenges of living and working abroad.

We are seeking to recruit a teacher who very much enjoys working as a member of a team and always aims to work collaboratively.

All successful applicants will have an appropriate qualification, with a PGCE or other qualification leading to qualified or similar teacher status. A minimum of four years of experience in teaching the relevant age group is required.

Why choose us?

OSI offers you the opportunity to be part of a committed international team. We intend to create more schools to implement our vision of bilingual education in the coming years, giving our teachers the opportunity to participate in an exciting new project. The position comes with an attractive salary and support with housing costs if required.

How to apply

We reserve the right to interview and appoint at any stage of the recruitment process. Early applications are therefore encouraged. For further details about working at OSI, please visit our website.

About Open Sky International France

Open Sky International schools prepare pupils to succeed in a rapidly changing, competitive and multicultural world. We have a real passion for education and our curriculum, teaching and learning methodology are built on the strongest aspects of a range of international curricula. We have high expectations and standards from the beginning for all children and we aim for our curriculum to be rigorous, broad and engaging. We understand that children are powerful learners, and we are confident that every child will make progress with the right strategies and support. This is why we do not practise selection at the admissions stage; instead, we believe that the role of a school is to enable all of its students to realise their potential.

Our curriculum targets both academic excellence and children’s personal development. We believe that academic excellence is compatible with children being fulfilled at school and respect, work, effort and critical thinking are all core elements of our philosophy.

Mastering languages is the key to cultures and to culture. Our group educational vision is for all pupils to achieve equal oral and written proficiency in French and English by the time they leave school. In addition, we believe that exposure to international cultures helps children to develop critical thinking and a set of values free of prejudice. We aim to provide children with the tools they will need to make the right choices in an open and globalised world, so that they can succeed in France or elsewhere. Our curriculum framework at all stages has been carefully designed to achieve this vision.
