Secondary History (and Humanities) Teacher

El Limonar International School (ELIS) has been providing a high quality bilingual education for Spanish and international students from Early Years to KS5 in the Murcia and Alicante regions, in southern Spain, for close to thirty years. With the appointment of a new Principal in 2012, the Murcia school underwent significant curriculum change in order to ensure that it remains the region’s top international school for the next quarter century and beyond. The Principal was then appointed Executive Principal of both the ELIS school sites in 2017, with the school now being led by a Headteacher.

In order to build upon significant achievements to date, and in preparation for an additional school site due to open in 2020, the Executive Principal is inviting applications for the post of Secondary History and Humanities Teacher to start on September 1st, 2019. The vacancy comes at an exciting time within the development of our expanding Upper School and after a suitable trial period, the role of Humanities Faculty Leader will be created and offered to a member of the team. 

This post requires a PGCE-qualified teacher experienced in the teaching of History at both KS3 and KS4 and of at least one other Humanities subject to at least KS3 level. Some Geography will be taught (at KS3) and experience in areas such as developing Citizenship or PSHE courses, as well as the teaching of examination subjects relating to the development of critical thinking and/or the teaching of Psychology would be highly valued by the school. Experience in preparing students for public examination at (I)GCSE is necessary and candidates who  have ESOL teaching experience might also be at an advantage.  Further training, as well as support with further developing teaching skills in post-16 education, will be provided. The post represents a genuine career advancement opportunity for a suitably UK qualified teacher and the successful candidate will build upon their existing experience in an environment which drives for ever-higher standards of teaching, learning and academic results.  

As well as meeting the requirements of the general candidate specification, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, be passionate about their subject and be very well organised. Experience as an Assistant Examiner would be an advantage but is not essential.
