We are currently looking for Teaching Assistant to join Aurora St Christopher’s in Bristol.

Aurora St Christopher’s supports children and young people aged 5 to 19 years with severe and complex communication difficulties including those on the autistic spectrum and with physical and sensory needs.

We have one aim; to empower children and young people to develop and grow in their own unique and inspiring way.

The site in Bristol has recently undergone a multimillion-pound redevelopment which has completely modernised the living and learning environment at St Christopher’s. The Role:

The purpose of the Teaching Assistant is to support the children with their learning and care whilst in school and other settings. To manage behaviour and tailor approach to the individual child and to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment. On occasion the Teaching Assistant will need to support the Class Teacher with the day to day running of the class in the absence of the HTLA.  There is a requirement to complete 10 days (80 hours) work during the holiday period supporting children in the residential units and leisure activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils in order to support them feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn during their time at the School.
  • To promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.
  • To contribute to providing high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through supporting the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • On occasion to support the Class Teacher in the absence of the HLTA in all areas of the day to day running of the class
  • To respond to the varying and changing needs of the school and adapt to any task presented to achieve the smooth running of the school.

To promote pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development and spiritual well-being through a Waking Day Curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma or equivalent (desirable)
  • SSTLS 01 (desirable)

Requirements of the role:

  • Eligibility to work within the UK
  • Undergo an enhanced DBS with barred list checks
