Job overview
For September 2018, the Headmaster and Governors of Colston’s School seek to appoint two Sports Assistants; one at the Lower and one at the Upper School. The successful candidates will be dynamic, positive and driven individuals, perhaps with plans to enter teaching or coaching in the future. This is an excellent opportunity during or after university for an individual looking to gain experience before following a possible career in teaching or sports coaching.
The Lower School (3-11yrs) includes an in-class support role and sports coaching. Colston’s is a day school so this role does not include evening duties in a boarding capacity. The successful candidate will also have some games coaching in the Upper School (including Saturdays).
The Upper School (11-18yrs) role will include general teaching support duties in the PE and Games department, coaching a selection of the school’s major sports (rugby, hockey, netball, tennis, rounders and cricket) and some administrative tasks. Some support of Lower School Games may also be included. There are no evening boarding duties associated with this role but support of weekend fixtures will be essential.
Colston’s is a thriving co-educational day school on the outskirts of Bristol that has a tradition of helping individuals and teams reach the highest levels of sporting achievement whilst encouraging participation and competition at all levels of ability. Easily accessible from the motorway network with approximately 750 students aged from 3 to 18. The Upper School occupies a glorious thirty acre campus and has all of its facilities on-site.
In addition to the above the following would be desirable but would not preclude employment:
- Experience of coaching children of a variety of ages in different settings.
- Evidence of a drive to want to become a teacher
- Evidence of sporting achievements in a chosen field or fields.
This post is full time during term time with some additional commitments for weekend fixtures. This is a temporary post starting on the first staff working day at the start of the Autumn Term 2018 on Wednesday 29th August 2018 and is expected to last until the end of the Summer Term 2019 on Friday 5th July 2019. The salary for this post will be £8,000 paid as a monthly salary for your contracted hours across the school year plus accommodation and lunch during term time.
To download an application form and apply for this position, please click on the ‘apply now’ button below. In the supporting statement of your application please be clear on why you would wish to join Colston’s, what experience you have to date and what level of sports coaching you can offer (especially in regards to the main school sports). Please also be clear in your application on which area of the school you wish to be considered for (Upper, Lower or both).
The closing date for applications is 4pm on 26th January 2018. The school does reserve the right to complete the process sooner should the need arise.
Interviews will take place in early February.
Colston's School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and disqualification by association checks.
