Job overview

MCA is a small, friendly, vibrant academy with high standards and expectations.  We pride    ourselves on knowing every young person well.  Student welfare is at the heart of all our work and we have the highest aspirations for every child in our community.

We are at a pivotal point in our history.  In our first inspection since becoming an academy we were judged as being good in all areas in October 2016.  GCSE results have improved year on year and we are determined that we will become an outstanding academy.

In September 2019, it will be an exciting time as we relocate to a purpose built new-build academy in Bordon.  Currently under construction with an investment in excess of £30M, it will include state of the art facilities for all departments.

The Science department has recently undergone a complete transformation.  The results are rapidly improving under the dynamic leadership of our recently appointed Head of Department who has the full support of a completely new team of specialist science teachers and high quality technician support.

There is an absolute commitment from all members of the team to match the performance of the other core subjects.

Students are taught in ability sets which are relatively small in comparison to other schools giving each teacher an opportunity to personalise their teaching to meet the needs of the students. Students are assessed termly giving staff an accurate process to track progress.   Students have ample teaching time throughout their time at Mill Chase with all years having 9 hours each fortnight.

At present, the department has five purpose built laboratories, a large prep room, a staff area and a department office.

In 2019, when we relocate to the new site, students will enjoy seven brand new science laboratories.  This is a really exciting time for Science at MCA.

About Oakmoor School

Oakmoor School is a brand new, state of the art secondary school situated in a 22 acre tree lined site on the edge of the South Downs National Park.

We benefit from cutting edge technology throughout the site and the latest specialist equipment for key areas such as science, technology and performing arts. Our main buildings surround a central court yard which includes covered areas for outside dining and seating areas outside of the learning resource centre for reading at break and lunch times.

There is an abundance of green spaces which include several sports pitches, an athletics track, a nurture garden and a forest school area for outside learning and activities. The whole site is bordered by mature trees providing a relaxing and inspirational backdrop to our inspirational learning environment.

We are a very successful school where high levels of respect and conduct prevail. Our success shows that when you couple high quality pastoral care with high standards and expectations, young people are able to flourish and to achieve their very best.

Values and Vision

The Oakmoor ethos is encapsulated by our motto: Ambition, Courage, Excellence.  We are a friendly, vibrant school with high standards and expectations. We pride ourselves on knowing every young person as an individual and challenging each of them to have the highest possible aspirations.

Teachers aim to provide engaging lessons which are fun for all students.  Oakmoor School hopes pupils take advantage of the opportunities presented to them, including clubs and activities outside of the classroom.

Ofsted Report

In November 2021 Ofsted judged our school as "Good" in all categories.  The report recognised how talented and dedicated our teachers are and how well our students demonstrate positive attitudes to their learning and to all members of our school community.

We are continuing our journey to becoming an outstanding school in partnership with all local stakeholders, especially our parents and students.
