Job overview

El Limonar International School (ELIS) has been providing a high quality bilingual education for Spanish and International students from Early Years to KS5 in the Murcia and Alicante regions of southern Spain for close to thirty years. With the appointment of a new Principal in 2012, the school underwent significant curriculum change in order to ensure that it remains the region’s top International school for the next quarter century and beyond. The Principal was then appointed Executive Principal for both the ELIS school sites in 2017. In order to build upon our significant achievements to date, the Executive Principal is inviting applications for the post of Computing and ICT teacher to start on September 1st 2019. The vacancy coincides with the planned   expansion of our Upper School; which will move onto a new site with completely new facilities in 2020. Combined with this is our school-wide improvement objective of raising the profile of technology in teaching and learning and preparing our students for programming and other information technology-related university and employment opportunities.

This post requires a PGCE-qualified teacher experienced in the teaching of Computing and ICT across KS3 to KS5: Some experience in preparing students for public examination is necessary. Computing and the integration of technology at ELIS is an area of the curriculum that attracts significant interest from students and parents and has enjoyed a lot of investment in recent years. This being said, there remains opportunities to develop the curriculum, further improve examination results and to generally raise the profile of the integrated use of technology both as discrete subjects and across the wider curriculum. Once the school has this ‘champion’ in post there will be further, targeted investment in hardware and systems and the post-holder will be involved in training staff across all Key Stages. At ELIS it is fortunate that the schools already enjoy excellent technical support in IT. This post will, following an induction period, definitely include specific curriculum development responsibilities.

As well as meeting the requirements of the general candidate specification, the successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, able to work independently and be very well organized. Some experience as an Assistant Examiner would be an advantage but is not essential.

El Limonar International School (ELIS), as part of the Cognita Schools group, is an equal opportunities employer that welcomes applications from all UK qualified teachers with relevant experience including teaching couples. Teachers would be expected to contribute to the extra curricular life of the schools and a working knowledge of the Spanish language would be an advantage but is not essential. Contracts are full time and permanent with remuneration and working conditions that reflect the Spanish national collective bargaining agreement for private education.

The closing date for applications is February 17th , but an appointment could be made before that date in order to secure an outstanding candidate. Applications will only be considered from candidates submitting a completed teacher application form (a copy of which is included in this advert). Candidates are also required to submit an application letter addressed to the Executive Principal, Mr. Christopher Eversden, and may also send a C.V. (with photograph) if they wish. Applications should be submitted through the ‘Apply Now’ button included in this advertisement.

All applications should include the name, email and contact telephone number of three referees, one of which must be the candidate’s current Headteacher. The referees must cover at least the last five years of the candidate’s employment history.

Long-listed candidates will be notified and invited to an initial interview by Skype. Final interview will take place either in the UK or in Spain by arrangement.

Cognita Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practice and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. Appointment is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for regulated activity (if the candidate has lived in the UK) and/or criminal/police checks for all other countries inhabited during the last ten years (irrespective of whether they worked in those countries).
