Thank you for expressing an interest in the post of Teacher of English at Copthall School.

At Copthall school, we work hard to ensure all girls receive an excellent education which will open up myriad opportunities for them, post-18.

We recognise the role education can play in addressing social inequality and see English as central to this.

We also believe English has a key role to play in developing character, and our curriculum has been designed to teach empathy, understanding and tolerance, and to embody our school’s core values: respect, responsibility, equality for all, support and safety, aspiration.

At Key Stage 4 all students study English Language and Literature. We currently offer English Literature A Level at Key Stage 5, and are looking to also offer English Language A Level in the near future.

The department’s results are consistently strong with more than 85% of students achieving a grade 4 or above at GCSE in 2022. In addition, 63% of A Level students attained an A*-B grade this year.

We are looking to recruit a full time Teacher of English who will join a highly skilled, energetic and passionate team, teaching across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

The successful candidate will be confident to deliver content at Key Stages 3 and 4 and will ideally have some experience of English Literature at Key Stage 5. They will be a student-centred teacher who is dedicated and will build positive relationships with our amazing young people so that they can inspire a love of learning and a passion for English both in and outside of the classroom.

Our outcomes for GCSEs and A-Levels/Vocational remain strong as we continue to boast a ‘well-above average’ progress score. We celebrate an excellent success rate in University applications and we are proud that not only do our students gain places in a range of universities including Oxford and LSE, they also secure degree apprenticeships with organisations such as TFL and the Bank of England.

Copthall School prides itself on educating 21st century women for successful careers in STEM, human, social and health sciences, performing arts and creative industries. We have approximately 1000 students on role, 120 of which are enrolled in our thriving Sixth Form which is in the top 12% of schools for A Level results. We offer both A-Level and Vocational pathways and we boast an excellent success rate in University applications.

Situated in Mill Hill, Barnet we have fantastic outdoor space as well as access to sporting facilities at Allianz Park.
