Job overview

We are seeking a teacher of English to join our vibrant and dynamic department, which is well established and extremely successful. The position would suit an experienced practitioner with experience of the new GCSEs specification in English Language and English Literature, but we would also welcome applications from NQTs / RQTs. As a team we are constantly trying to improve teaching and learning and enhance the experiences of the students. We firmly believe that raising the profile of English and increasing the pupils’ enjoyment and curiosity of the subject will lead to ever improving attainment and progress figures.

All students currently follow the Eduqas (WJEC) GCSE specification in both English Language and English Literature. We are continuing to adapt our schemes of work and assessments to ensure students are prepared for the challenge and rigour of the new exams. We work in teams to produce schemes of work and learning journeys which highlight the links to other areas of English. As a department we have taken a unique approach to the teaching of the new Key Stage 4 curriculum by developing an interleaving overview of the units to be covered. This, we believe, enables the pupils to gain a deeper knowledge of the subject and helps them to prepare for the rigours of the new GCSE exams by constantly asking them to look back on their previous learning. Blind assessments are commonplace in both Key Stages. We also have five GCSE exam markers in the department, covering three of the four papers; this allows us to gain a deeper insight into the demands of the new curriculum and this knowledge is shared within the department.

You will receive high quality, comprehensive CPD and support from your colleagues who will coach and guide you through your continued professional development. Parklands has a bespoke NQT and RQT programme in place. Staff at Parklands also benefit from access to the UK’s leading provider of corporate healthcare cash plans provided by UK Healthcare.

Parklands High School is a popular, over-subscribed and high-achieving school. This is an opportunity to work in a friendly, supportive, well-resourced and forward looking environment. We were inspected by OFSTED in 2018, and were graded as ‘Good’  under the demanding new inspection framework.

If you wish to come and visit us or require more information regarding the role, please contact Miss L Pilkington, Assistant Headteacher, by telephone or email (lpilkington@parklandsacademy.co.uk)

Candidates should complete an electronic application form, available from the school website, along with a letter of no more than 3 sides of A4, in which you outline your experience and suitability for the position.  Applications are available from the school website and should be returned to the email address admin@parklandsacademy.co.uk

Values and vision

As an outward-facing school in continual pursuit of excellence, we aim to provide a world-class, 21st Century education for all pupils, irrespective of social background, race, gender, disability, belief, and sexual orientation, so they can successfully embark on the next stage of their education, training or employment, and make a positive contribution to society.

Ofsted (November 2014)

“Attainment in five or more good GCSEs, including English and mathematics, is significantly above the national average. Progress in English has been consistently good over recent years. In mathematics, progress has improved and is now consistently good for students in all year groups. The progress of all groups of students, including those who are disadvantaged, is good. The proportion of students making better than expected progress in English and mathematics is in line with what is seen nationally. This demonstrates strong improvements in mathematics.”
