Job overview
If you are in education because you want to make a difference to children’s lives, hopes and aspirations, then Beaumont Leys is the school for you!
Beaumont Leys is a highly successful secondary school consistently rated as Good by Ofsted and with a Progress 8 figure of 0.23 in 2017 placing us in the top quarter of Leicester schools, Leicestershire schools and the country as a whole. This equated to a 57% 5A*C in English and Maths and included 21% of our students gaining 3 or more A*A equivalent grades despite operating in an area of high social challenge and having around 50% of disadvantaged students.
Housed in a vibrant and colourful new build designed to replicate our inclusive and positive ethos, Beaumont Leys boasts fantastic facilities for a full range of subjects including 4 dedicated ICT rooms, 6 fully equipped Science labs and interactive whiteboards in every teaching space. In addition, we have an amazing Inclusion zone as well as our on-site Total Learning Centre (TLC) where our most vulnerable students receive fantastic support. We also own extensive grounds which house an outdoor gym, basketball courts and astroturf complemented by a well utilised sports hall and fitness suite available to staff. Finally, we consider our catering to be the best in the region, if not the country, and defy anyone to beat our regular staff breakfasts or hand-carved roasts which make our dining room a great place for staff to eat and catch-up. We even have a Cappuccino machine!!
Our Humanities Faculty is forward looking and innovative with an excellent reputation for maximising individual student potential. Lessons are both interesting and dynamic and prepare students for the full range of experiences the world has to offer. This includes not only the workplace, but cultural enrichment and an enhanced understanding of humanity.
The Humanities Faculty encompasses Geography, History and Religious Education. The faculty consists of nine members of staff led by a Faculty Team Leader who is supported by a Head of Geography, Head of History and Head of Religious Education. We are a hardworking, supportive and dedicated team who are passionate about teaching. We believe in ‘going the extra mile’ to help support students and staff. All staff are expected to teach their GCSE specialist subject as well as Religious Education. At KS3 staff teach their specialist subject and History, Geography and Religious Education.
Humanities is a real strength within our school. Geography achieved 62% A*-C whilst History achieved 50% both from a cohort significantly below National Average on entry. In addition RE GCSE which is taken by the whole cohort in Year 9 yet again performed amazingly with 52% achieving a C grade or higher whilst 22% achieved a AA* grade despite an early entry.
Our great results don’t happen by accident: we believe in the power of our staff. We work hard to recruit the best and then we support them to be even better. Our internal promotion record is impressive, even our Head Teacher started with us as a NQT, and we have supported a number of teachers into Senior Leadership roles whilst facilitated others to explore then share their love of teaching through a variety of Teaching and Learning routes. We engage extensively with local ITT providers, including Teach First and Researchers into School, provide an excellent NQT support programme and also run our own internal BLOTS programme for potential Beaumont Leys Outstanding Teachers. Our teachers are always learners and as such role model everything we want for our students.
And if you’re thinking of relocating, then give Leicester a look! Our school is located on the northern edge of Leicester City in very close proximity to the M1, A50, A6 and A46, whilst also being a 5 minute drive from Bradgate Park and the beautiful Charnwood countryside. There are a range of affordable areas to live within an easy commute. We are also only a 15 minute direct bus ride from the revitalised Leicester City Centre with the High Cross shopping centre, great restaurants and bars, an award winning theatre and of course a range of great sporting talent!
So, if you are looking for a forward thinking, dynamic school to take your career to the next level, we would welcome your application. Just like Leicester City’s 5000 to 1 shot, we are pushing the boundaries for our students and invite you to be part of our odds beating success. If you are in education because you want to make a difference to children’s lives and aspirations then Beaumont Leys is the school for you!
