ICT at The Leigh Academy has a long history of success. The Learning Area has achieved outstanding results both at GCSE and at a range of course offered in KS5. Individually, students have achieved outstanding performances in CIDA examinations at Key Stage 4 with over 80% of students achieving A* grades at Level 3. Computing is a popular choice with many students studying the subject at A Level. The majority of students become accomplished programmers in both structured and object-oriented programming methodologies. The majority of Advanced Level ICT students proceed to higher education courses in Computer Science or related courses.

We have six fully-equipped specialist learning areas each with a capacity of 30 networked PCs running Windows. The Learning Area has five teachers employed full time teaching ICT and Computing. The curriculum at Key Stage 3 has been redesigned recently with considerable success. Students are now given opportunities at Key Stage 3 to program in Scratch, Python and Web Coding as well as opportunities to develop algorithmic and computational thinking skills. BTEC ICT is offered currently at Key Stage 4 as an option, in addition to GCSE Computing.
