About Sir John Leman High School

Sir John Leman High School is a co-educational 11–18 secondary school with academy status serving part of the Waveney region in north Suffolk. The pupil roll is around 1,400, with some 160 of these students moving on to the school’s sixth form.

Sir John Leman High School was established in 1631. It has been on its present site for over 100 years. In 1914 the school became the County mixed grammar school and in 1971 a comprehensive high school. In recent years building work has gone on to expand the school and improve its facilities.

The school’s sixth form offers a wide choice of 30 advanced level courses, and a range of different routes for those on a one-year programme of study.

Values and vision

Sir John Leman High School focuses on four key areas: achievement, ethos and values, opportunities and relationships. It aims to create a friendly, purposeful environment characterised by high expectations and exemplary standards of behaviour.

Every student is valued as an individual and helped to develop confidence and self-esteem and to achieve in all areas of school life. Creativity is encouraged, as is risk-taking in a caring and supportive environment.  The school aspires to create excellent relationships, shared aspirations and an ethos of co-operation and respect.
