The SABDEN Multi Academy Trust, based across East Sussex, is an aspirational and supportive Trust, aiming to create a warm, caring, stable, supportive environment in which all pupils and staff feel safe. We are three special schools, a secure unit, a large countywide alternative provision and a vocationally focused Free School. We strive to discover success through learning, self-belief and achievement. Pupils are empowered to take responsibility through a personalised curriculum supported by secure relationships with staff and strong partnerships with parents and carers.

College Central is a ‘Good’ countywide Pupils Referral Unit with multiple sites across East Sussex. It provides education to young people with who have been, or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream school. College Central's site in Hastings (Tile Barn Road) are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant 3 – Mentor, into our expanding team following promotion of existing staff who are now undertaking teacher training.

The role of the Teaching Assistant 3 - Mentor is a key position supporting pupils to access lessons and overcome challenges both in and out of the classroom. Mentor’s offer classroom support, pastoral support and work with class teachers to develop meaningful programmes. Mentors support the tutors as part of the tutor team and act as a supportive pastoral contact for all pupils. They sometime supervise classes to cover staff absence, working in small teams to deliver quality cover classes.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible and supportive. Whilst experience of working with young people would be advantageous, the ability to develop and sustain meaningful relationships and champion young people who have struggled to access mainstream education is key. You should be willing to learn, and keen to develop and appropriate training will be provided for the right candidate. You might be keen to work in a school setting prior to undertaking teacher training, or developing knowledge of working in Alternative Provision and pastoral roles.

The hours of work are Monday – Friday, 8.30am–3.30pm (exact working pattern to be discussed at interview and agreed on successful appointment). We are a warm, friendly and supportive team, with additional benefits, such as free daily lunch.

The successful candidate will be joining a Trust and school that continues to be ambitious in its drive to improve outcomes for our pupils. You will join a highly dedicated and professional staff team and be part of a supportive working and learning environment, where your professional development is highly valued.
