The Sheffield College’s Computing department has built up a good reputation for supporting regional employers with apprentices in the field of IT Systems support and Computer Networks. The department is passionate to maintain this and to recruit, train and develop their workforce.
As a result the Computing Department has seen a steady growth over the past few years and is passionate about meeting the needs of industry, through the delivery of high quality training. We are seeking to employ an experienced work based learning assessor/trainer with the skills to be able to assess at levels 2 and 3 as we meet the demand for our apprenticeship provision.
Our current offer is proud to include a small employer base that currently represents SME’s who provide the heartbeat of the region. The College has high expectations, standards of practice, and associated success rates are expected to be achieved. You will also be expected to contribute to the ongoing curriculum and team development, with an accompanying desire to continue to develop your own professional practice.
The main role will be to provide quality support, training, assessment and guidance to ensure students achieve a high level of competence in newly acquired skills or knowledge, specifically in relation to tracking, monitoring and retention of individuals apprentices. Develop initiative, creativity and judgement in applying appropriate approaches to apprentice learning support activities. Contribute to planning for future innovative or strategic developments in own work area or Engineering Technologies department.
You will be predominantly based on site at Sheffield City Campus and onsite at an employer’s facility, but there may be also some requirement to provide learning support in classroom workshops within the computing department. The successful candidate will be training and assessing IT apprentices on site to develop their practical skills and knowledge to prepare them for transition into the Digital/IT sector. The college and our employers have high standards of practice that includes an expectation of professionalism, a rigorous Health and Safety policy and a commitment to safeguarding all staff and students.
The successful candidate will hold or be expected to work towards a valid assessors qualification, computing qualifications, and have the ability to evidence a suitable range of industry knowledge and experience.
