This song tells the story of Jamaican labourers who went to the port of Colon for construction of the Panama Canal. Some would return to Jamaica carrying souvenir watches for friends and family. The labourer described here wears a smart ‘zoot suit’ with brass watch chain bouncing on his belly. But he prefers to tell the time using the position of the sun!
