Lesson 4 of 10 in a series of lessons that examine the Crusades, from the rise of Islam to the Third Crusade.

This lesson examines the causes of the First Crusade and reasons for people joining.

Students will examine:

  • Pope Urban’s speech at Clermont in 1095
  • 4-mark inference question
  • Causes of the First Crusade card-sort
  • 4-mark Describe two features … question
  • 8-mark utility question writing frame

In addition, each video comes with a recommended YouTube video unique to this lesson. The video can be seen on the lesson landing page before purchasing.

This is part of a series of lessons that aims to encompass the new 9-1 GCSE skills into Key Stage 3.

Lessons are colourful and engaging and match the content of the new Exploring History textbook from Pearson, although the textbook is not necessary for any of the tasks.
