French speaking players at the World Cup

French speaking players at the World Cup

Every major tournament, I print out and laminate pictures of the most well-known French speaking footballers. I put these up around school and the children love trying to work out the meanings of the words. I’ve also added some slides at the end that you could use in class to discuss vocabulary and for the children to write their own profile. Please let me know if there are any errors. I learnt today that you say “Je viens de France” rather than “Je viens de la France,” which is what I’ve always used in the past. Enjoy and Allez les bleus!!!

FRENCH CONVERSATION CARDS 1&2

FRENCH CONVERSATION CARDS 1&2

My students have always enjoyed and really benefited from these FRENCH conversation cards. They’re perfect for developing speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference booklets focusing on beginning/general conversation and cultural knowledge. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give your students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. These sets focus on beginning conversation, with a flavor of cultural and geographical knowledge. The prompt cards also feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and more intermediate stages of their FRENCH learning, including a range of tenses. The REFERENCE BOOKLETS include all the questions and answers written out in FRENCH. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources. Students use the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning. The QUESTION AND ANSWER WRITING CARD TEMPLATES give students the opportunity to apply their FRENCH very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too. You can also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with. The resource consists of four non-editable files in a zipped format: SET 1 PROMPT CARDS with writing template and REFERENCE BOOKLET SET 2 PROMPT CARDS with writing template and REFERENCE BOOKLET The sets are also available individually if you prefer, each priced at $4.00. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully: this resource is copyright, and for single-teacher / classroom / purchaser use only. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BONNE CONVERSATION !

FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES CARDS

FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES CARDS

A SET OF 80 MATCHING GAMES CARDS SHOWING COUNTRIES, FLAGS AND CAPITAL CITIES OF 40 COUNTRIES WHERE FRENCH IS AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE These cards give my students a great flying start getting to know LES PAYS FRANCOPHONES - they can play a wide of games with the them, completely independently. I’ve included a full reference resource too, which is great not only for when you’re focusing on French-speaking countries, but also as an all-year round resource. Allow students about 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and to increase the sense of competition if you’re playing any of the whole-group games! There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of LES PAYS FRANCOPHONES. Laminate the cards and reference sheets if you can - you will be able to use them for years to come. The resource consists of two, non-editable files in a zipped format. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the resource is copyright, and for single-teacher / purchaser / classroom use only. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON VOYAGE !

Green Pen Student Response Feedback starter activity

Following the marking of exercise books, I give my students several personalised learning targets and activities to complete as a starter during the next lesson. I created this Slide which I put up on the board to encourage a dialogue between us and to get them thinking about their progress and what they are still struggling with. (I also used their responses in their books as a way of planning follow up lessons as well as a starting point for my next set of marking). Please feel free to use and adapt as you feel appropriate.

Charlie Hebdo - liberté d'expression - authentic materials - MFL - FRENCH

Charlie Hebdo - liberté d'expression - authentic materials - MFL - FRENCH

This can make up a series of lessons about the Charlie Hebdo attacks of 2015 in Paris. More suited to KS4 and possible a more mature Year 9 group given the nature of the topic and the vocab used. The first few slides are a selection of starters using authentic materials that get pupils responding to images in a similar vain to the GCSE photocard. The lessons get pupils looking at current affairs but also looks at grammar, genuine quotes, and an article amongst other activities such as opinion lines. My classes really found this topic interesting but it also pushed them in terms of language, vocabulary and grammar. Alongside this Powerpoint I have also used the French Netflix documentary « Je suis Charlie » https://www.netflix.com/watch/80079253?trackId=13752289&tctx=0%2C1%2C491adc434dd06655319d9ea4a3625e6e22127a0d%3A5b75458081903e484cb2dc14579e901ead7c8d6c%2C%2C WARNING: not all of this documentary is suitable for showing to students so make yourself aware of the sections that ought to be skipped before pressing play! Obviously as this is on Netflix it requires a subscription and for it not to be blocked on the school IT system. Notes to teacher: SENSITIVE SUBJECT MATTER: Please look through all powerpoint and be aware of sensitive nature of this topic and be mindful of your classes potential response before using.
