Civil Rights in America: How could you protest?

Civil Rights in America: How could you protest?

This lesson aims to explain how black people in America voiced their protests against their lack of Civil Rights in the 1950s and early 1960’s. Students are introduced to the various forms of protest they used which they have to research and ultimately decide how effective each form of protest was. The resources are differentiated and there are quite a few links to video footage at the time to reinforce the learning. Students use the key words at the end of the lesson to summarise their new found knowledge.

Scotland and the Great War: Campaigns for Women's Suffrage (Lesson 11)

Scotland and the Great War: Campaigns for Women's Suffrage (Lesson 11)

Note: All funds raised from proceeds of these resource sales will be going towards covering costs of my placement with GLP Scotland in summer 2018 where I will be travelling to Rwanda to work alongside Rwandan educators to improve educational opportunities in Rwanda! To learn more visit: https://glpscotland.org.uk/rwanda/ This is a Scottish National 4/5 History lesson on British suffrage campaigns. While the content is appropriate for experiences of people from across Britain, some activities are tailored towards the Scottish examination system. As I operate a mixed class, there are activities designed for both National 4 and National 5 included within the lesson. Students will undertake a comparative study of the actions and impacts of the Suffragettes and Suffragists. Students will compare the strengths and weaknesses of each campaign. Students will learn about the impacts of WWI on the Suffrage campaigns, and the impacts of the campaigns themselves on women gaining the vote in 1918/1928. Students then have practice exam questions to complete.
