AQA GCSE Spanish - Writing (Foundation) answer strategy

AQA GCSE Spanish - Writing (Foundation) answer strategy

These are the templates that I prepared for my higher year 8 Spanish students and early KS4 in relation to answering Writing Foundation Questions 1-4. They include different games and tasks to revise verbs conjugations and vocabulary to answer the questions. I also included the templates for some games and activities. These templates are totally amendable and adaptable to use with different topics and so far worked for my students. Please let me know how it goes!

AQA GCSE Spanish - Writing (Foundation) answer strategy - Questions 2 and 4 / Higher Question 1

AQA GCSE Spanish - Writing (Foundation) answer strategy - Questions 2 and 4 / Higher Question 1

This is a template that I prepared for my higher year 8 Spanish students and early KS4 in relation to answering a Writing Foundation Questions 2 and 4 // Higher Tier Question 1. The topic of this example is celebrations / festivals. Students begin by translating the short text into English and coaching each other if stuck at the same time assessing each other’s work. Then they revise some grammar by playing tarsia game (see template in the end of the presentation). Consequently they get on with reading the question and what is required from them and discussing the what they could include in their answer (both content and grammar structures). Then they make a break and play a dice game (can be prepared prior to the lesson or during the same - see template in the end of the presentation) and a learning grid to revise verb tenses. They then get back to the task and work in pairs to plan their answers. Finally they complete the task individually, discuss the success criteria and the marking scheme with the teacher and peer / self assess their work. Please let me know if there are any problems / ideas!

AQA GCSE Spanish - Writing (Foundation) answer strategy - Question 1

AQA GCSE Spanish - Writing (Foundation) answer strategy - Question 1

This is a template that I prepared for my higher year 8 Spanish students and early KS4 in relation to answering a Writing Foundation Question 1 (photo card). Please note that this is a template and can be reused for different topics. This one is related to the topic of carnivals and celebrations. It starts with a Quizlet slide to revise (whilst being engaged!) some vocabulary prior to looking at the task. There are various Quizlet word lists available so you can just change the QR code and link if another list of words is needed. Then Students together with the teacher discuss the strategies and look at the success criteria and marking scheme. Then they play few verb conjugation games to revise some useful verbs that they can use to describe the photo card later on in the lesson. Consequently they jot their thoughts on a different photo card (working in pairs / groups) and play a catchphrase game to get more ideas on the topic. Then they work in pairs to prepare a response to another (but similar!) photo card. Finally they do it individually and self/peer -assess their work. Please let me know if there are any problems / ideas!

AQA A Level Spanish Topic Summaries and Ideas - Years 1&2

AQA A Level Spanish Topic Summaries and Ideas - Years 1&2

These powerpoints were made by me during my A Level Spanish studies; they summarise key facts, figures and discussion points relating to each of the topics and sub-themes which will help when it comes to studying and revising for the speaking exam, as well as vocabulary for the written exams. They include all of the year one and year two topics, as well as useful vocab that’s either listed or used within each slide. It’s set out in an easy-to-use order to avoid confusion and has extra information (e.g. examples of events in the Spanish-speaking world which are relevant to each sub-theme and can be very impressive in the exam) and is handy for finding what you’re looking for. My teacher will be using these to support her next class, I am sure it will be very helpful!

AQA A-Level Spanish. Revision for Speaking exam

AQA A-Level Spanish. Revision for Speaking exam

This is a very simple and structured way to support students revising for their AQA A-level speaking exam. This resource was inspired by a GCSE French resource I saw on Twitter. The original layout was 20 minutes a day for 40 days. Mine is, due to my timing, 20 minutes a day of Spanish for 20 days. How yo use: When scanning the QR Code printed on the handout, your students will be able to find all the tasks, day by day. For some of revision tasks, students have to email the teacher some sort of evidence to show that they have done and completed the daily task. Buena suerte!

El Domingo de Pascua (SMSC - Cultural) Spanish (AQA) KS3/ KS4 lesson

El Domingo de Pascua (SMSC - Cultural) Spanish (AQA) KS3/ KS4 lesson

This is an Easter lesson that I created for my higher KS3/KS4 Spanish students. The idea is to have some fun and to do some writing as well! The lesson starts with a friendly - easy starter, lesson plan and pronunciation slide to learn how to pronounce some Easter related words. Then we move on to a quizlet task to learn / revise some Easter vocabulary and Rally Coach activity to check whether we remember the words (translation practice). I have then included a conjugation activity with some verbs (you need some dices!) followed by a competitive translation activity (make sure you have similar ability students working together). The students then use a trap door structure (table) to speak about their Easter day and then I tell them about my Easter day in a similar manner as suggested by previous activity. I first use pictures only and then show them the model answer and the grammar success criteria. After they write down their responses we move on to playing quizlet live and Hangman. Enjoy!

El chocolate, collaborative story telling preterite and opinions

El chocolate, collaborative story telling preterite and opinions

Can be used at any level. The slides have commentary so you can see what I do with it. Great for Speaking and or writing-great just before Easter- great for getting students to use the preterite accurately, great for expressing interesting opinions. You’ll be surprised at how much speakng they do, how much attention they pay to verb endings if you turn it in to collaborative writing instead. You’ll be surprised how they remember there are alternatives to delicioso after using this activity. When they’ve finished the collaborative writing I ask them to count number of words and they often find they’ve written more than 150 and so you can then say to them that this is the number of words for Higher writing now at GCSE. Obviously it isn’t GCSE task but they do like realising that 150 words isn’t such a big deal. I do it in conjunction with an activity that I have uploaded before about the History of chocolate because it comes from Mexico and the song el chocolate by Jesse y Joy-on Youtube- really easy to hear the lyrics if you have not come across these two before. I also link it to como agua para chocolate for GCSE classes-look at an extract from the novel with an able motivated class perhaps-watch bits of film-not the saucy bits-I sometimes just show the wedding scene.

Semana Santa en España

Semana Santa en España

These are some activities to learn about the culture in Spain: How the Easter season is celebrated. Students will learn the vocabulary related to this event and they will watch a video that shows how the cities are transformed in this traditional and religious celebration. There are 4 activities: They will read a text explaining what is “Semana Santa” and how is celebrated. Two activities to learn the vocabulary from the text. This activity can be done before or after reading the text, depending on their level. One activity to match with the meaning of the word and another activity to match with images. There is a YouTube video with the transcription and activities for two different levels (basic or intermediate/advanced). Each level has two activities to do after watching the video. Homework or project. These activities include the key answers.

Cultural lesson about my hometown’s big celebration: Las fallas, includes clips, a song and lots of explanations in Spanish about this popular Celebration declared Patrimonio Inmaterial de la Humanidad in 2017. It goes well with the AS/ALevels Spanish AQA topic “El Patrimonio Nacional”. It is also a very good powerpoint if you want to do a cultural lesson with KS3 or KS4 students, however the texts are in TL and would need some translation. I have a KS3 version of the presentation created, please, ask if interested :). I hope you enjoy such a colourful display! Paula PD: I have attached a video about Spanish festivities as a starter , so the file might be a bit heavy, however it also has the videos embeded in the ppt notes.
