UK money games and activities

This resource is suitable for use with students who are learning the addition of UK coins up to £1.00. This includes native English speakers and students who are new to English and the sterling currency. These games could be used by younger students who are quick to finish given tasks or as alternative interesting fun ways of practising counting money accurately. Playing games is particularly helpful for new arrivals who have very little English, as it encourages peer interaction where much language can be learned. Older/Adult English as an Additional Language students who have recently arrived in the UK would also benefit from using this resource, as being able to accurately count coins while shopping is helpful. The games are engaging and provide fun ways to teach and reinforce the addition of values up to and including £1.00. .All pages should be printed and laminated for durability. There are three games in this resource 1. I have.. Who has..?. (36 cards) A teacher checklist is provided for the I have.. Who has..? game so that the teacher can ensure that the students are adding the money accurately. 2. Balance the scales (4 games) (15 amounts of money to be counted in each game) The scales, cards and answer sheets are colour co – ordinated. This game can be used as an individual activity or 2 or 3 players. If more than one player is playing turns can be taken to check if the answer is correct. Points can be allocated to individuals for each correct answer. The winner will be the player with the most points. A piece of paper with the students names is needed for recording the points. 3. Money Matching (6 games) Answer sheets and student results sheets are included. Students colour one star for each correct answer. Only the money matching cards should be cut out. The game boards and matching cards are colour co – ordinated. All the money matching answers are in black but can be identified by the game number in the top right hand corner of the sheet. Full instructions for playing the games are included in the resource.

Q (/kw/) Articulation Cards

A set of UK English picture cards containing initial and medial Q (/kw/) words for use in Speech Therapy. Unlike many similar sets and word lists available these cards use UK English words, supporting vocabulary development and proving useful for children with Word Finding as well as Articulation difficulties. The words vary in length allowing for differentiation depending on the level of individual children's mastery of the sound. Each picture card uses a photo to clearly demonstrate the word's meaning, requiring as little interpretation as possible to encourage the child to be able to access them as independently as possible. This is an extra resource on the Euro currency coins 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, 1 euro and 2 euro coins. Aimed at: KS1 students learning about the euro/cents, EFL/ESL students The worksheets are in colour and black and white. ANSWERS are provided where appropriate. Each of the four worksheets contain a variety of tasks for students to complete on the topic of buying school stationery. Worksheet 1 - Students look at the pictures and price of each item and then work out how much two items of school supplies cost. Two questions at the bottom: Which student spent the most? Which student spent the least amount of money? Worksheet 2 - This worksheet is similar to the above except students add three items of stationery together. Worksheet 3 - Students answer 6 questions about the items, e.g. Which item is the most expensive? How much less does the eraser cost than the calculator? etc. The next task is to write the new price for each item which has risen by 10 cents. Worksheet 4 - The first task is to write the new price of the items which have risen by 20 euro cents. Second task - to add up 3 items of stationery at the new price. Worksheet 5 - Biggest Euro Sale Now On! - Students reduce the price of each item by 11 cents. They then recalculate the items of stationery bought. Additional worksheets: 1. Drawing coins to match the price tags - students use the fewest number of coins as many times as they can. 2. Add up the coins and write the total on the price tag for each object shown. Challenge: Students add up all the prices on the tags and write the total amount of money spent. This pack relates to euros and euro cents currency. Aimed at KS1/Kindergarten/Grade 1 and ESL/EFL students. The presentation can be used as follow-up to the first pack and builds upon the skills students have learnt previously. It still uses a step-by-step approach to teaching money but using higher value coins. This pack contains: <strong>A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation (53 Slides) - divided into convenient sections. </strong> 1.Reviewing coins and their values, money exchange and using the 50c, €1 and €2 coins. 2. Using €1 and €2 euro coins. Using combination of coins to equal the value of the one euro and two euro coins. 3. Using euros and cents together - this is explained in the presentation with various whole class activities 4. Giving change from €1 and € 2 euro coins. The Presentation also includes whole class activities and different strategies students can use to work out money problems. Number dominoes is suitable for use with students who have a range of levels of English acquisition. It is also useful for native English speakers who are working at different levels. There are six sets of dominoes in this resource. Dominoes Game 1 - Matching number words and numbers in order 1 -50 Dominoes Game 2 – Matching number words and numbers in order 51 – 100 Dominoes Game 3 - Matching number words and numbers out of order 1 – 50 Dominoes Game 4 – Matching number words and numbers out of order 51 - 100 Dominoes Game 5 – Matching number words and numbers in order 1 - 20 Dominoes Game 6 – Matching number words and numbers out of order 1 – 20 The individual dominoes for each game are easily identified by the different coloured borders.
