About Hummersknott Academy

Hummersknott Academy is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary school in Darlington, County Durham. At its most recent inspection there were 1,228 students aged 11-16 on the school roll.

Hummersknott Academy was founded in 1955 as a girls’ high school and converted to academy status in 2012. In 2007, the school underwent an extensive £15 million regeneration project. The area of Hummersknott is located in the west of Darlington and has a population of around 3,500. Extensive facilities at the school include a dance studio, ceramics area, recording studio, sports hall and a 3G artificial football pitch.

Hummersknott Academy has been a specialist language college since 2005. The curriculum is flexible and aimed at making sure all pupils have choice and can succeed.
