King's Bruton

King’s Bruton is a thriving HMC co-educational boarding and day school for 330 pupils aged 13 to 18. Set in the heart of Somerset, the school combines a rich heritage with a forward-looking ethos and a genuine sense of community that is felt throughout every aspect of school life. The Somerset school operates in partnership with Hazlegrove Preparatory School, in nearby Sparkford.

King’s Bruton was founded as a boys' school in 1519, admitting girls in the late 1960s before becoming fully co-educational in 1997.

King’s Bruton is a smaller independent school and, as such, its values and vision revolve around the tight-knit community of students that it has cultivated. The Somerset school promotes a sense of loyalty, determination and encourages pupils to go above and beyond both in and out of the classroom.

“Relationships between staff and between pupils themselves are appropriate, and in their questionnaire responses the vast majority of boarders agree that they get on well together and feel safe in their boarding house. Staff are dedicated to the welfare of all pupils and provide a suitable structure for them to develop and thrive. Pastoral policies and procedures are effective and good behaviour is promoted.”
