Job overview

Riverside Primary school are seeking to employ an enthusiastic and adaptable Learning Support Assistant to join their dynamic team from 7.00am till 11.30am. The post will involve working within the class to help support children with their day to day learning. Taking small groups of children for phonics sessions, maths sessions and writing groups. 

The post will also involve completing a lunch duty, assisting with Breakfast club for the AM post and completing an after school club for the PM post.

This is an opportunity to join a new school as part of a tightly-knit team. The highest standards of behaviour and academic rigour are demanded and achieved.

The post holder will be required to:

Provide support for the pupil in completing tasks

  • Use strategies to encourage the pupil’s independence
  • Support the pupil in developing social awareness and forming friendships
  • Be positive in outlook and flexible and adaptable to the needs of the child and the classroom setting
  • Be responsible for creating engaging activities and ensuring that pupil participates within the class.
  • Accompany the child on school trips.
  • Undertake training as necessary
  • Observe pupil progress and report all feedback to the class teacher.


The successful applicant will have the following qualities: 

  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Flexible and reliability.
  • To be able to work as a member of a team as well as under their own initiative.
  • Organisational and time management skills.
  • A passion for the enrichment of young people’s lives. 


The successful applicant should have: 

  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience of working in a school environment.
  • Experience of working with SEND children (desirable but not essential for the right candidate)


The above duties are neither exclusive not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be required by the Head Teacher and within the grading level of the post and the competence of the post holder.
