Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for a well-organised, self-motivated and forward-thinking individual to support the Alumni society of a thriving and successful independent school in Bristol.

We are looking for an individual with great inter-personal skills, alongside first-class administrative ability, to build upon and further develop this excellent network of former pupils.

The successful candidate will work with the Alumni President and Committee, as well as maintaining very strong links with the school, via the Head and other senior colleagues. The OC Society wish to provide social opportunities for Alumni to meet and to find ways in which they can support the school’s current and former students, as well as investigating other ways in which they can support the wider community.

This post is available for an immediate start, although it is recognised that this may not be possible. Candidates are encouraged to apply immediately and the organisation reserves the right to appoint before the closing date if a suitable candidate is identified.

The applicant will understand the importance of maintaining, strengthening and expanding links between the various stakeholders. They will be energetic and have the ability to see tasks through to completion. A sense of humour will no doubt be important too.

Collegiate (formerly Colston’s School) is a thriving co-educational day school on the outskirts of Bristol, easily accessible from the motorway network and with approximately 800 students aged from 3 to 18. The Senior School occupies a glorious thirty-acre campus and has all of its facilities on-site.

The Alumni Society plays an active part in supporting former and current students through careful management of its funds and through close cooperation with the school. Over the last 8 years, over £1m has been donated to support bursaries at the school. They have also held social events, like Dinners, Balls and visits to local attractions.

The Society wish to develop the ways in which they remain in contact with former pupils and they wish to extend the list of those for whom they hold contact details.

The hours for this role are offered as part time, working 20 hours per week, which can be worked flexibly for 38 weeks per year, normally to include 35 weeks of term-time, although again there may be some flexibility here too. There will be the need to attend regular evening meetings, currently once every other month on a Wednesday.

You will receive a salary of £28,000 FTE per annum, with an actual salary of £12,565 pro rata. Other benefits include lunch during term time, free parking on site, a defined contribution pension scheme and staff remission on school fees in accordance with the staff remission policy.

We aim to truly represent all sections of society and applications are welcomed for all suitably qualified candidates.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:

- To promote the safeguarding and welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible or come into contact with;

- To be supportive of and committed to the School’s policies on Child Protection;

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
