Location:             The Holden School, Leigh

Hours:                  37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Contract:             Permanent, Term Time

We’re looking for an Assistant Headteacher to join The Holden School team.

About the School

The Holden School is an independent specialist day school for boys and girls aged from 5 to 16, catering for children with a wide range of needs in Lancashire, Manchester and surrounding areas. Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life. We are a Therapeutic Led Trauma Informed School providing individualised curriculums for our young people supported by our Class Teams, our Wellbeing Team and our own Therapists.

We pride ourselves in steering children in the right direction, nurturing aspiration to progress them academically and socially, to encourage them to take pride in their achievements. Socially, we build confidence in our students, so they are able to have a greater understanding of the wider community in which they live.

Purpose of the Job

To support the Headteacher with the leadership and management of the school in order to promote effective education and care and contribute to the learning, personal development and well-being of all students.

Be an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) discharging individual responsibilities to a high standard as well as supporting the work of the team at all times.

Work closely with the Headteacher, SLT and colleagues to ensure the school is compliant with statutory regulation.

Essential criteria:

  • Degree in an appropriate subject
  • Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent
  • Professional development relevant to the post
  • Demonstrated ability to engage positively and effectively with young people presenting complex learning needs
  • Experience of School Improvement processes and practice
  • Understanding of safeguarding requirements
  • Knowledge of Education Acts and other legislation relevant to special education
  • Understanding of OfSTED requirements
  • Sound working knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice
  • Understanding of the statutory curriculum and other educational initiatives and requirements
