Paxton Academy Sports and Science, Thornton Heath/Croydon

Required for the Spring term 2023 (or sooner)

At Paxton we have been on an incredible school improvement journey over the last three years. Since the school’s inadequate Ofsted inspection in 2019 Paxton has joined the Wandle Learning Trust, appointed a new leadership team and moved into a stunning purpose-built building complete with sports and science facilities.

Driven by our committed and inspirational leadership team, supported by the Trust, the school has now transformed into a rapidly improving, forward-thinking school where pupils come first and attainment and progress is above national averages.

As we move into our next stage of development, leaving our inadequate judgement far behind us and growing to a 3-form entry local school of choice, we are seeking ambitious, inspiring, career-minded teachers looking for fantastic CPD and career opportunities, to grow with us.

We are committed to high aspirations, inspiring pupils and achieving academic excellence. Adults and children work together and create an environment in which everyone can flourish and achieve their true potential, both academically and socially. The school’s core values, provide an ethos which unites and empowers everyone to gain confidence, take risks and seize opportunities to excel in an ever-changing world.

Our new building is situated in the heart of our community and features fantastic indoor and outdoor PE and games spaces, as well as modern music and science classrooms. More recently, following feedback from pupils, we have been busy transforming our Early Years play space, creating reading areas, quiet spaces and an outdoor sensory area. Future developments include creating two new Sensory Zones to provide a safe learning space for children with SEND and those with additional needs. These developments will provide the space to ignite the children’s curiosity, capture their imagination and provide all learners with the opportunity to excel.

You can see the building for yourself by viewing our video Explore Paxton Academy! - YouTube. You are also welcome to arrange a visit by contacting the school office on 020 8683 2308.

Our sector-leading teacher and curriculum development arm, Wandle Learning Partnership is home to English, Maths and Teaching School Hubs. We are the only Trust to have been accredited by the Department for Education to run all three types of Hubs under one roof. These hubs open up a world of opportunities for you to develop your career with us in a high quality and tailored way.

We have a nationally accredited Teaching School, Maths and English Hubs, opening up a world of opportunities for all of our of staff to develop your career with us in a unique and tailored way.

We have experts from across the education sector feeding into the trust pedagogy on a daily basis. As a member of staff of the Trust you will have opportunities to develop your subject knowledge and practice in order to develop your career and have an increasingly positive impact in your own classroom and across the school.

The Trust has also successfully created and received DFE Validation for the phonics programme Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which is being used to teach children to learn and love to read in more than 4,500 schools in England and internationally.

Paxton Academy is an inspirational  primary school located in Thornton Heath.  In October 2020 we moved into our  brand-new purpose-built school building.

At Paxton, reading is at the heart of our curriculum which  is ambitious and relevant, creative and inclusive. Across the  school, children from Reception to Year 6 are immersed in high  quality text which celebrate their diversity and instils a ‘Love for  Learning’ to succeed in all that they do.

Throughout the curriculum, carefully planned enrichment  opportunities provide a platform to secure prior learning and  build further knowledge and skills. These memorable learning  moments provide the stepping stones for children to become  lifelong learners.

Pupils at Paxton know that no matter your age or where you  live, we can all make a positive impact. Our seven Core Values,  embed an ethos which unites and empowers everyone to gain  confidence, take risks and seize opportunities to excel in an  ever-changing world.
