Job overview
Addiewell Primary School is a non-denominational school with a roll of 97 primary children and a 20/20 nursery. Built in 1978, the school forms a shared campus, housing Addiewell and St Thomas’ Primary School, which serves the entire Addiewell community. The school currently sits within decile 1 on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) and the Free Meal Entitlement (FME) is 27%.
Addiewell Primary School has 5 classes with 5 Class Teachers, 1 Teacher (Additional Support Needs), 1 Principal Teacher, and a Head Teacher. The school benefits from a P.E. specialist and brass tuition is provided for children from P5 to P7. The school is well supported by a team of five Pupil Support Workers who assist pupils in class. Clerical support is provided by one Administrative Assistant and one Clerical Assistant. The school runs a very successful Breakfast Club which is well attended by the children. There is an established and fully supportive Parent Council, who is very active in school, especially in the areas of fundraising and general parental communication and liaison.
The school has an excellent relationship with the Cluster Schools and works in partnership with local community groups and support services. There is a particularly strong relationship with St Thomas’ Primary School. Staff, pupils and parents from both schools demonstrate effective collegiality, team work and commitment to improving outcomes for all learners in the Addiewell Community.
The Early Years Centre was built in 2009 and is a non-denominational setting catering for children aged 2-5. It is an integrated provision which supports multi agency working between Education, Social Policy and Health. The 20/20 nursery class offers Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) for 3-5 year olds and the provision is effectively managed by a part-time Class Teacher, supported by an Early Years Officer (EO), two Nursery Nurses and a Modern Apprentice. The Head Teacher of Addiewell Primary School is responsible for the nursery provision however, the centre also includes a Social Policy playroom which is used regularly by Whitdale Family Centre, Sure Start and other partners to provide ELC for 2 year olds, in addition to a range of support groups and programmes for families.
