Deputy Head of Primary (Teaching & Learning)

Starting August 2022

Sandford International School is keen to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to lead our primary curriculum and coordinate teaching and learning across our 3 – 11 primary school.  This is an exciting opportunity that would suit an experienced Assistant/Deputy Headteacher who is an outstanding classroom practitioner and passionate about delivering the best outcome for all children.

The post holder will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the Primary Headteacher with the strategic leadership of the school.  This is a role with substantial responsibility and the opportunity to positively influence and impact the school’s future.  The post holder will be part of weekly Senior Management Team meetings with the secondary school as we make decisions across our whole 3 – 18 campus.

A demonstrable record of excellent, high-quality teaching and the ability to model this for others is an essential element of this role.

Also essential is an ability to provide strong leadership across all curriculum areas. The ideal candidate will have experience and understanding of assessment and should be up to date on the current English national curriculum (which we follow for English and Maths).  They should have understanding of the recent changes across the age range including the recent changes in EYFS and PSHE.  Knowledge and experience of the International Primary Curriculum is also desirable.

Our ethos is focused on ensuring all of our students achieve their full potential.   The atmosphere is disciplined and rigorous but also happy and caring.  This is an exciting time to join our school. Sandford International School is one of the top international schools in Addis, we are rapidly improving and oversubscribed.

We can offer you:

• Enthusiastic students who are willing to learn and want to achieve the best that they can.

• Working with a committed, hardworking and supportive team with the desire to raise student achievement even further.

• An opportunity to live and work in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s sprawling capital in the highlands bordering the Great Rift Valley, the country’s commercial and cultural hub. Its National Museum exhibits Ethiopian art, traditional crafts and prehistoric fossils, including replicas of the famous early hominid, Lucy, a 3.2 million-year-old member of Australopithecus afarensis, the most complete skeleton of an early human ancestor ever discovered.

• A contract that includes a competitive salary, free accommodation, flights, medical insurance, an annual gratuity and two free school places.

Sandford International School is undergoing a period of intense change and improvement.  The current post holder is leaving at the end of term and we are keen to recruit the right person to join our team in August 2022.
