Job overview
“No child left behind” is the core ethos of our school. With all the benefits that being a growing school can bring but with all the advantages of being within a larger trust, Corby Technical School invites you to join our team that is dedicated to providing the very best outcomes for all our students. Rated as outstanding (Ofsted - 2014), our school is growing rapidly as we have expanded our cohort and now have a brand new sixth form.
In addition to leading the design, technology and art subjects within the school, this role will also include co-ordinating the STEM agenda across the school. Currently all key stage 3 students study STEM as a double lesson where they get the opportunity to develop their technical and inter-personal skills as part of project-based learning. Cross-curricular work is encouraged within the STEM curriculum and this teaching is often supported by other departments within the school.
The department has excellent facilities and is housed in a specialist wing of the school with a purpose-built food technology room, a large engineering workshop, an electronics workshop and two art studios. The department currently offers GCSEs in Design & Technology, Engineering and Art & Design. A-levels are currently offered in Engineering and Art.
This is an excellent opportunity to influence the future direction of the department within our over-subscribed school in the heart of Corby. You will be given all the freedom you need to be creative and you will be working with students who have chosen to be at a successful school.
To be successful in this role, the candidate should:
• Be able to teach design & technology to A level.
• Be able to support the teaching of other subjects within the department i.e. Art & STEM.
• Be creative in their approach to the curriculum design and incorporating STEM subjects and applications
• Be able to inspire, challenge and motivate young people
• Be committed to achieving outstanding student outcomes
Additional benefits to working at Corby Technical School:
• A fixed 8 week term structure allows for five standardised terms meaning that learning can be structured and delivered with consistency. Holidays also fall outside ‘normal’ term structures allowing for inexpensive travel opportunities.
• As part of the Brooke Weston Trust opportunities for staff development and career progression go beyond the school walls; fostering talent is a key aspect of our culture.
• All staff receive free meals (breakfast and lunch) and are able to participate in a Car Salary Sacrifice Scheme. A reduced price membership to the local gym is also available.
If you think this role is for you then we would like to extend an invitation for you to look round our unique school where we would like to have the opportunity to tell you more.
