Havant Academy is pleased to be expanding their English team by appointing a Lead Practitioner for English to work within our growing, dedicated English Department. Since the arrival of our new Headteacher in September 2021,  Havant Academy represents a school on a rapid journey to success. The Role: 

As part of our focus on raising standards and embedding excellence we are excited to be looking to appoint a talented colleague to the role of Lead Practitioner for English. The role will focus on ensuring our ongoing drive for excellent teaching, learning and attainment in English continues. You will have a keen interest in current pedagogical thinking and be excited at the prospect of working with colleagues across the department to drive the continuous improvement of teaching and learning that impacts on our students' learning and progress to mean they achieve outstanding outcomes - beyond expectation. This exciting role will be varied and will involve directing the work of teachers, working with groups of staff and individuals in realising their professional goals, supporting with improvement priorities as well as assisting in the delivery of a high impact staff development strategy so that our dedicated colleagues have ongoing access to the very best opportunities to support our students. 


As well as having a passion for young people and their futures our colleague will: 

● have first hand experience of teaching the AQA English specification

● be a dynamic professional with a desire for rapidly improving standards 

● be an outstanding classroom practitioner and English specialist 

● have the ability to plan and devise creative opportunities with colleagues to unlock their potential 

● have excellent emotional intelligence and know how to work with other professionals to inspire them 

● have experience of working with others to improve classroom practice 

● bring an unwavering commitment to doing whatever it takes 

● understand how to support colleagues with a range of experience and help them to always be brilliant teachers. 


This is an exciting opportunity to take on an ambitious role aimed at making a real impact on the professional lives of our colleagues and the outcomes for our students. The successful candidate will work alongside our Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning. Therefore they will have an impact on whole school policy and procedures. There are opportunities for the right candidate to take a leading role as the school ECT mentor, supporting colleagues in several different departments.
