Job overview

We are offering an internship within our school for an individual who is looking to gain school experience before applying for a PGCE/SCITT course for September 2019 or is interested in becoming a teacher.

The role will be split between being part of a Team of House Parents in our Boarding House and working within our Additional Needs Department for three days a week. This will primarily involve being part of a team that supports Educational Needs within the classroom as well as being given the opportunity to deliver lessons and provide cover for absent members of the teaching staff when required.

The role within school will involve working with the whole ability range of students across all three Key Stages and will be tailored to your subject strengths. The House Parent role involves evening duties and activities within the Boarding House along with alternate weekends on a rota basis. Due to the nature of the role, you will be provided with free board (term time only) and lodging (all-year) in return for overnight “on call” duties within female boarding.

Five good GCSEs including English and Mathematics are essential, and three A Levels and a degree are desirable. You will have good organisational and interpersonal skills along with the personal characteristics required to supervise students and work with both the teaching and support staff.

As a lead school within the Lincoln Teaching School Alliance, we will offer a wide range of internal and external CPD relevant to your needs and, where relevant, will work with you to secure a PGCE/SCITT placement. Moving forwards, we will also be willing to offer you a training placement within the school if you are accepted onto a training programme with a local provider.

Closing date: Wednesday 14th March January 2018.

We reserve the right to interview suitable applicants on receipt of their application form.

De Aston School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

De Aston is a forward thinking, successful and vibrant 11-18 school, with excellent facilities and a genuinely comprehensive intake. We are a rural school but take from a large catchment area. We are big enough to matter but small enough to care personally for every one of our community.

De Aston is a school with a total commitment to comprehensive education and has an outstanding academic and pastoral record. There is also a well-regarded Special Needs Department that has a genuine care for individual needs. We pride ourselves on the range of extra-curricular activities we offer in sports, the arts, sciences, debating, computing and beyond.  We regularly compete in national competitions and both our staff and students have been winners of many local awards and also shortlisted into the finals for some of the most prestigious national awards.

We are proud of our success at receiving Artsmark Gold and Career Mark Gold. This reflects the ‘gold standard’ we aspire to in all our endeavours but also reflects the incredible work of the staff and the talents and commitment of our learners.

De Aston is also a school with an excellent programme of professional support and career development opportunities. Our INSET is organised and delivered by locally and nationally recognised professionals.

We are one of the most successful comprehensive schools in Lincolnshire with a proud history going back over 150 years. We have tradition but we also have a drive to embrace evidence-informed research to improve even further. We are a growth mindset school and believe that our motto ‘Believe. Strive. Achieve.’ captures our philosophy and energy as we prepare young people to take the place in the world.
