INTRODUCTION TO STONYHURST INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL, PENANG

 

Stonyhurst International School Penang is a new co-educational school for

pupils from 3 years to 18 years from all religious denominations and secular belief systems.

 

At capacity, the school will cater for 1,200 students.

 

The school aims to be the premier values-based international school in Penang, focussed on

achieving the best possible academic outcomes for students alongside developing pupils

who are critical thinkers, problem solvers and most importantly, are inspired to be men and

women for others. 

 

Stonyhurst International School, Penang will offer a truly unique educational experience for

students through our deeply personalised learning, coaching, advisory and counselling

programmes. The organisational structure of our school will allow us to allocate students an

individual learning coach and mentor that will guide them through their entire learning

journey with us. 

 

Students will be offered explicit opportunities to work alongside both older and younger

students as part of their coaching group, developing a genuine sense of cohesion and

friendship between our senior and junior students. All of our students will undergo coaching

and advisory training and take an active part in mentoring students across the school. 

Stonyhurst International School opened in September 2022 with an enrolment of

340 students from Nursery through to Year 9. Over the following years the school will

expand to a maximum enrolment of approximately 1200 students.

 

Our curriculum framework has the Jesuit Pupil Profile at its centre and this will be expressed

at all levels of the school. The development of values and community service will be a key

component of learning at all levels as will be our commitment to provide a robust and

varied programme of afterschool activities. Our coaching framework will form a core part of

our programmes of pastoral care and professional development.   

 

THE ROLE 

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious Head of AEN to strategically lead, manage and promote whole-school inclusion. 

 

●      The right candidate will have the ability to inspire and motivate students with a diverse range of talents and abilities. A desire and willingness to work with students through EYFS to Year 9 are essential, along with experience in IGCSE. We commence the IGCSE programme in August 2023. Students start a 2-year IGCSE programme in Year 10.

●      The Head of AEN is part of the Student Support Services Department across the whole school. AEN comprises Learning Support and English as an Additional Language; the appropriate candidate will have a specific focus on Learning Support.

●      The ability to work with colleagues within a multi-disciplinary team is essential and knowledge of working with a tiered approach to support is desirable. 

●      The ideal candidate will also ideally be a qualified assessor for examination access arrangements or have an understanding of the process and complete necessary arrangements for those students requiring further support.. 

●      The successful candidate will be a highly committed team player with the drive, energy and passion to develop this forward-looking school. Applicants must be willing to lead by example and play a full part in the School’s Pastoral Care and co-curricular programme.

●      The successful candidate will become part of the Pastoral Care team and work alongside the Head of Pastoral, the Head of EAL and the wider support team. 

●      The successful applicant will need to be sympathetic to the ethos and virtues of Stonyhurst International School.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

●      Graduate qualified teacher

●      Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area or PGCE (Preferably to be in a field relative to Childhood Development, a Psychological field or with a specialist in Special Educational Needs)

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

●      Minimum three years’ experience in the area for which you are applying

●      Successful experience in working with students across age groups and year levels

●      Demonstrated experience in inspiring students in a stimulating learning environment

●      Demonstrated experience of using ICT to promote learning

●      Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with British education system and IGCSE preferred

●      Ability to analyse student data to support student achievement

●      Demonstrated experience in raising achievement and setting challenging targets

●      Strong commitment to supporting all aspects of our programme, especially through participating actively in the extra-curricular activities and contributing to the life of the school community

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Salary

The school will offer successful candidates a highly competitive salary package including

housing allowance, end-of-service gratuity, medical insurance and airfares for the teacher,

spouse and dependants along with fees remission for up to two dependent children.

The post will be offered subject to satisfactory references, a medical examination and an

enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. The starting date for this role is August 2023.
