Job overview

We want an innovative and energetic teacher to lead this key department. The successful candidate will have high standards, dynamism, excellent communication skills, leadership potential and a record of high-quality teaching across the age range. We expect our heads of department tirelessly to champion their subject and to encourage intellectual curiosity and active learning.

Under a new Headmaster, this position offers a fine opportunity to a charismatic and ambitious teacher and would be ideal for someone looking for their first HoD appointment. Experience of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and of teaching environment sciences would be beneficial but is not essential.

The person appointed will also be expected to contribute fully to the pastoral, boarding and co-curricular life of the School.

Bryanston School offers an exceptional working environment, which includes a competitive salary, state-of-the-art facilities and wide-ranging prospects for development; the School is committed to the leadership development of its staff.

This is a full-time post and we welcome applications both the independent and state sectors.

About Bryanston School

Bryanston is an independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, set in a beautiful 400-acre site near Blandford Forum in Dorset. It includes Bryanston Prep School, a co-educational day and boarding prep school in the neighbouring village of Durweston.

Founded in 1928, the school aims above all to develop the all-round talents of individual pupils. A broad, flexible academic and extra-curricular programme is offered and each pupil benefits from considerable one-to-one help and guidance from a personal tutor, subject teachers and housemaster/housemistress. Bryanston aims to combine the best of the new and the old, as befits the school motto et nova et vetera.
