King’s InterHigh is the world’s first school to offer the IB Diploma Programme entirely online for students aged 16-19. Currently, we have a diverse and successful cohort of students from across the world studying full time on the first year of the programme. We work closely with the IBO and pioneer in both online pedagogy and education technology. We are recruiting now for the significant expected growth in student numbers in our second cohort and due to the addition of new subjects from September 2023.

Salary Range – £30,000 - £38,500 per annum

Job Description

Kings Interhigh is a leading online provider of primary, secondary and college education in the UK. With over 4,700 students, Kings InterHigh and alternative provision division Academy 21, make up the two entities. We are an ambitious company with quality education and student engagement at the heart of everything we do. It is for this reason that King’s InterHigh was selected as the world’s first school to offer the IB Diploma Programme entirely online, which started in September 2022 for students aged 16-19.

The successful candidates will join our thriving International Baccalaureate® teaching team, led by our IB DP Coordinator and will be joining a talented team providing excellent online educational experiences for our students. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering the International Baccalaureate®, Computer Science, including to DP Higher Level.

Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will have expertise in the IB DP programme, be committed to the International Baccalaureate® values, and be excited to develop the full IB Leaner Profile in an online setting.

Technologically skilled, the successful candidate will be open to innovative delivery methods, and excited by the prospect of using technology to deliver the IB DP to students who cannot currently access the programme through creative solutions and an inclusive approach. High quality training will be provided in the technologies utilised in the programme, including Virtual Reality environments but a good level of proficiency with teaching online will be required.

The successful candidate will:

  • Inspire, motivate, and provide rich opportunities to develop subject knowledge for students within the school
  • Be up to date on current research and emerging pedagogy and disseminate this to staff through active engagement in professional development with the learning community
  • Take a leading role in maintaining a positive and inspirational learning climate in the subject specialism and, where appropriate, the integration of your subject learning across the curriculum
  •  Support the self-evaluation of the school’s effectiveness and the development of priorities for improvement
  • Assist in maintaining and developing a high-quality school environment and profile and act as a role model by their professional conduct and disposition
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and any class or group of students
  • Provide guidance and advice to students on educational matters
  • Provide or contribute to assessments, reports and references relating to students in a timely manner
  • Participate in meetings and staff CPD opportunities 
  • Undertake any other work as specified by their line manager


Qualifications and Education Requirements

The candidate will be qualified up to degree level in a related subject area and have a recognised teaching qualification, a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status. They will also have International Baccalaureate® training, suitable for DP teaching.

Skills and attributes - Essential

  • Excellent written and communication skills
  •   Knowledge of safeguarding and student health and wellbeing processes
  •  Knowledge of the education sector in a teaching profession or above
  • Ability to work well in teams
  • Change and business improvement-focused
  •  Able to work effectively in dynamic and changing environments
  •  Experience of working in IB schools
  •  Experience with creating resources and the ability to review and enhance our current course delivery
  • Computer Literate with the ability to teach online using technology applications
  • An international outlook, and ability to work with a global student cohort

Our School is part of the Inspired Education Group

Inspired Online Schools use state-of-the-art digital technology and operates two established divisions – King's InterHigh, a non-selective fee-paying online secondary school, established in 2005 and a B2B division including Academy 21, serving other educational providers, schools, local authorities and other public bodies.

King's InterHigh is the largest online school group in the UK, delivering a fully personalised education online. Our curriculum structure is based on the Key Stages, with IGCSEs offered at KS4 and A Levels at KS5. We teach students online from Key Stage 2 - 5, through a digital platform.

Academy21 is an online alternative provision, which caters for vulnerable students with different needs from a range of schools, local authorities and virtual provisions. We teach all core subjects at KS3 and KS4 plus various additional subjects including citizenship studies, English literature, history and ICT. The successful candidates will demonstrate expertise and experience of delivering their subject specialism/s and come from either a state school and/or independent school background. Passionate about ensuring the students are at the centre of learning, the successful candidate will be used to deadlines, have experience of creating effective learning resources and having a key focus on the academic monitoring and progress of the students.

About our Roles

Here at InterHigh and Academy21, our Leaders of Learning (Teacher) contracts do differ from mainstream schools due to the nature of our business and ways of operating. As a Leader of Learning (Teacher) you will be contracted to 42 weeks of the year, up to 38 of these weeks are contact weeks with the students, with the remaining weeks being available for additional activity such as course writing.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. During the school day there are allocated breaks in the morning, lunch time and in the afternoon, with breaks in between each lesson also.

Our lessons are 40 minutes long which ensures the time spent in the classroom is value added and effective. A full time Leader of Learning could be given a timetable with up to 33 lessons, equating to 22 hours of contact time.

As a business and a school, we do not follow the Teachers Mainstream Payscale, we operate in line with our own salary bandings. Further information specifically for each role will be available via the job adverts.
