Nursery Teaching Assistant Apprentice – Advanced, Level 3 – Fixed Term 

£5.00 per hour within the first year of apprenticeship, national minimum wage (NMW) after the first year

30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, term-time only

Barton Hill Academy, based in Torquay, Devon, opened September 2012 and is sponsored by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET).  The Academy currently has 660 pupils on roll aged 3-11.  We aim for every child to have a happy and active primary education in an environment that is caring and supporting. We are looking for a Nursery Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our hard working and successful team.  The role will involve supporting individuals or small groups of pupils with learning needs. The ability to engage the children in play activities, work with a small group of children and fulfil general classroom duties will also be essential. Ideally you should have some experience, but primarily we are looking for someone who is adaptable, flexible, caring and enthusiastic, with a smile for all situations. You will be joining a lively and friendly team in a large town school. 

Teaching Assistants work in Primary, Special and Secondary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. 

The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. 

You will complete a  Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard and have the opportunity to gain a Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for  Teaching and Learning in the Schools.  You may also be required to complete English, Maths and IT Functional Skills (this will be determined by existing qualifications).  

Your Trainer/Assessor will assess you in the workplace on a monthly basis. In between these meetings you will have dedicated time away from your job to work on the apprenticeship and collate evidence for your apprenticeship e-portfolio with ongoing support from your Manager and Trainer/Assessor.

The essential requirements for this role are:

• GCSE Maths and English Grade A-C or equivalent or willingness to work towards English and Maths functional skills qualifications
• Good IT skills 
• Basic understanding of child development and learning, classroom roles and responsibilities and confidentiality
• You must be resident in England and have the right to work in UK, aged over 16 and not in full time education or hold University degree
• To be eligible for the Apprenticeship, applicants must have resided in the UK or EEA for 3 years prior to the start of the Apprenticeship.

This will be a fixed term position and the duration of the apprenticeship will be determined by the job role and current skills. The minimum length of the apprenticeship will be one year and one week.
