Job overview

Millfield is one of the leading UK independent schools for boys and girls aged 2–18 years. Millfield is not like other schools and never has been. Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1,300 students at the Senior School (year 9 to U6) and a further 450 students at the neighbouring Prep School. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries. Millfield’s size brings great opportunity and the facilities are unmatched in the UK.

We are looking for an organised and professional individual to provide personal assistance to the Deputy Head (Pastoral).

As the PA to the Deputy Head (Pastoral), you will be responsible for diary management and responding to queries; preparing, proof-reading and publishing documents; minuting meetings, typing correspondence and ad-hoc project and administrative duties.

To be successful in this position, previous experience in a similar role is essential, including experience of diary management, producing internal and external comms, and communicating with individuals at all levels. Outstanding administrative and organisational skills are also key.

This is a full-time position working 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday; however, flexibility is available regarding the number of weeks worked per annum. Whilst it is essential that this role works throughout term time, applications are welcome from those wishing to work from 38 weeks per year to all year round. Remote and partially remote working is also available.

Due to the 24/7 nature of a boarding school environment, this can be a role with multiple demands occurring at the same time, and the ability to be flexible is essential as weekend and evening working may be required.

The full-time salary for this position is £30,000 per annum. This will be pro-rated for part-year working.

If you are interested, further details are available from our website via the apply button.

Closing date: 10th December 2021.

Millfield School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All staff have a responsibility for the safeguarding of children and young people in our care; as such, you are required to attend necessary child protection training and participate fully in activities that ensure the School stays compliant with statutory child protection and safeguarding guidelines issued to the School by ISI and Ofsted.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The School will not unfairly discriminate against any applicant for employment on the basis of conviction or other details disclosed. The School makes appointment decisions on the basis of merit and ability. If an applicant has a criminal record, this will not automatically bar them from employment with the School. Each case will be decided on its merits in accordance with the objective assessment criteria.

All positions within the School are exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All applicants must therefore declare all previous convictions and cautions, including those which would normally be considered "spent" except those received for an offence committed in the United Kingdom if it has been filtered in accordance with the DBS filtering rules.

The modern world is highly competitive and the way we prepare our children for its demands is more important than ever. Young people today are subject to great pressures and it takes strong personalities to avoid the traps that life has lying in wait. Hence a good school must seek to develop confidence and maturity in all its pupils whatever their strengths and weaknesses.

All individuals have different needs and therefore a variety of opportunities must be available to enable each one to achieve success. They must learn to apply themselves to academic work but must also be encouraged to express their other talents.

With its outstanding facilities, a staff:pupil ratio of 1:7.5, an extraordinary range of academic courses and the unrivalled strength of its extra-curricular programme, Millfield strives to achieve all these aims. It also seeks to move with the times whilst maintaining the important traditions of good manners, discipline and respect for others.

We pride ourselves on the richness and diversity of the Millfield experience as well as the friendly atmosphere within our community.
