We would like to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Teacher of English to join a successful and committed team of professionals. The successful candidate will possess, or have the potential for, outstanding teaching skills and will be an asset to this core subject.
St. Joseph’s Catholic High School is a successful over-subscribed and growing Catholic Secondary School within easy reach of both the M4 and M40 motorways. We are an average sized (870 on role) mixed Comprehensive Secondary School within a Grammar/11+ Education Authority. The School was graded ‘good’ by Ofsted in January 2016 and has had very good results since; Progress 8 2016 was 0.36, 2017 was 0.58. The school is oversubscribed with a healthy waiting list for every year group. We pride ourselves in our strong Catholic ethos and making sure every child isn’t just loved, they know they are loved.
The English Department is a committed and supportive team and the importance of achieving in the subject is clearly recognised by the pupils. The department boasts a track record of improvement and success (department Progress8 score of 0.25 in 2017) and continues to build on this solid foundation.
The candidate should have knowledge of the English National Curriculum and be aware of the requirements of the AQA syllabus GCSE. A warm, imaginative approach to teaching and learning is required and the ability to maintain good classroom control. On-going formative assessment is very much a part of our practice and progress is regularly reviewed.
Our sixth formers study AQA A Level English Literature and English Language, which builds on skills acquired at GCSE. The English department also offer Media Studies A Level – a popular choice at both A/S and A Level.
