Job overview

To further boost our students’ academic achievement, we have an opportunity for a qualified Teacher of English to work with our students across all key stages to develop their learning. Applications from NQTs are also welcomed.

Our energetic and highly motivated English department are actively engaged in an integrated programme of reading, writing, speaking and listening, drama and media activities. Assessment for learning, active learning and positive reinforcement are cornerstones of the department’s philosophy.

At Key Stage 3, all students follow a core of schemes of work that are cross-curricular in a highly creative learning environment. At Key Stages 3 and 4, students are generally taught in mixed-ability groups, although there is a single high-ability set in each of the timetabling bands. Students requiring additional support are offered the Literacy Progress Units and literacy mentoring.

At GCSE, all students are entered for both AQA English Language and English Literature syllabuses, with just a few studying the GCSE English only course. Results are consistently impressive with value added at every Key Stage.

At A Level, English Literature, English Language and Literature and Creative Writing are consistently amongst the most popular subject choices of sixth form students. All courses follow AQA specifications.

We invest in our staff and you will be given a full induction programme and the support you require to progress, wherever you are in your career. All teaching staff are provided with an Apple device, enjoy discounts and offers with Kent Rewards and we have an independent nursery on-site which offers discounts to Homewood Staff. Furthermore, you will enjoy a unique working environment in the beautiful town of Tenterden in the heart of the Weald of Kent.

We know it’s a competitive market and are proud of what we can offer. If you feel this is a challenge and an environment you want to be part of, we want to know what it is that makes you the one we should invest in. Detail your successes in your covering letter and get us excited about you.

We are not accepting applications from employment agencies for this position but would be delighted to receive a direct application.

Closing date: 23rd September 2018, however applications will be reviewed as received, so you may hear from us before this time.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all members of the community. Homewood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be asked to apply for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
