ACS International Schools are recruiting a committed, driven and inspiring teacher of PE to work within the Upper School at ACS Hillingdon International School.

The successful candidate will be a passionate subject advocate, eager to communicate their enthusiasm for sport and physical activity in order to encourage our students to strive for success, whilst also developing an understanding of the importance of an active lifestyle.

The post holder will be a flexible team player, committed to supporting their departmental colleagues and will readily contribute to the wider life of the department and school through extra-curricular squads, clubs, fixtures and subject planning. The teacher will have the ability to coach more than one sport to a high standard, with particular expertise in swimming, tennis, volleyball and girls’ PE being an advantage.

The Department

The Physical Education & Sports Department is a positive and dedicated team, consisting of seven full time members of staff, complemented by a strong team of peripatetic coaches.

The department has some excellent facilities including a large sports hall, three tennis courts, a 4G training pitch and access to Hillingdon Court Park on site. Playing fields, a short drive away consisting of; 3 full size football pitches, 2 full size rugby pitches, 1 baseball field, and 2 softball fields. As well as access to top class local facilities including Brunel University and Hillingdon Leisure Centre.

ACS Hillingdon’s 11-acre campus is less than 14 miles from central London, enabling students to benefit from opportunities in both the city and countryside. Our magnificent Greater London campus has outstanding facilities, and a wealth of history, art and culture right on its doorstep.

Knowledge, skills, and experience required

  • Educated to bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) minimum – related subjects Teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching PE to Secondary-aged students
  • Strong IT skills
  • Demonstrates consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct
  • Fluent in English both verbal and written

Principal Accountabilities

  • Demonstrate in depth and accurate knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, subject content and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences that set high expectations that enable students’ use of higher level skills as appropriate.
  • Plan using the school’s curriculum, effective strategies, resources, and data to meet the needs of all students ensuring that lessons are well planned with differentiating instructions, engaging content, planned learning is delivered and a love of learning is promoted.
  • Effectively engage students in learning by using a variety of differentiated instructional strategies to meet individual student learning needs, including help for students needing additional learning support, working with resource teachers, including EAL and learning differences specialists, to support the learning needs of all students.
  • Assessment of/for Learning Systematically gather, analyse, and use data to measure student progress and learning, guide instruction, provide timely feedback, inform own teaching and support curriculum development so that both students and the school achieve academic excellence.
  • Learning Environment Use resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, positive, safe, and student-centred environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop teaching and learning resources for students at different levels, including on-line Virtual Learning Environment-based resources and materials, to address the students’ learning needs and the agreed curriculum for shared use in the department.
