Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures. A high-quality languages education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Focus on developing the breadth and depth of pupils’ competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing, based on a sound foundation of core grammar and vocabulary. It should enable pupils to understand and communicate personal and factual information that goes beyond their immediate needs and interests, developing and justifying points of view in speech and writing, with increased spontaneity, independence, and accuracy. It should provide suitable preparation for further study.

French and Spanish GCSE Essentials Booklets with interactive lessons

French and Spanish GCSE Essentials Booklets with interactive lessons

This bundle contains the comprehensive essentials booklets I created with exercises to practise revision. Having studied many years' worth of listening and reading exams in French and Spanish, it was apparent that common language kept appearing. These booklets contain the non-negotiable vocabulary all students really need. I have added in some interactive lessons as well that can be used to recap the basics. These can be uploaded on a VLE for students to practise their pronunciation at home.

Hobbies and Sports. Vocabulary and giving opinions.

Hobbies and Sports. Vocabulary and giving opinions.

I have successfully used this ppt with students from Year 2 to Year 4. The presentation is divided in two main topics: hobbies and Sports. Each slide contains pictures linked to the vocabulary which supports the lessons. The main learning objectives are: 1) to name the main hobbies and sports in Spanish (supported by flashcards and games). 2) To form sentences with the expressions ¨I like- me gusta¨ and ¨I don't like - no me gusta¨. 3) To give opinions about the hobbies and sports using adjectives in Spanish (¨fun- divertido¨ , ¨boring-aburrido ¨, etc.). The presentation contains activities aimed to different age levels. On a first level the students can learn the vocabulary linked to the pictures and try to match them. Once they can name the pictures independently, the use of symbols helps them to form sentences with ¨like¨ , ¨love¨ and ¨detest¨. On a second level I introduce the adjectives to give opinions. First in English and then through a matching activity in which they will discuss the right answers with their partners. On a third level all the vocabulary and sentence forming practise wil come together, always supported by images and symbols. Children with different learning abilities may profit of the visual aids and working in partners. Also team work is encourage through competitive activities. Apart from the ppt, I have used flashcards and mini white boards to work the writing aspect.
