This product can be used for K-2, to review adding coins (Eurocents) as well as to practice comparison. Students will need to compare by adding the coins on each side to find out the total amounts. By adding the greater than, less than or equal sign the students can show their understanding of place value.

Cards show British coins up to £1 in value, stating “I have…” Underneath is a statement saying how much an item costs. Learners need to count the coins and decide whether they can afford the item. Many learners with ASD / SEN struggle with money sense and the idea of whether an item is affordable or not. This activity could be extended to ask how much change the student would receive if the item is affordable, or alternatively, how much more money they would need. Designed as an independent workstation task for learners with autism but could also be used in a small group. Learners use clothes pegs to answer the question yes / no to make the task more interactive and to focus those who find sitting and writing to be difficult.

Shopping activity - prices in ‘p’ and ‘£’. There are two ways this resources could be used. For the first way, ask the stuents to make a shopping list and then work out how much money they would need to buy them. For the second way, Ask the students to add up the money in the purse and then work out what they could buy with it and the different options available. Included are blank purses for students to draw their own amounts of money and an identification chart of the coins used. Each basket is from a different “shop” and the purses are coloured to match the border on the basket sheet for ease of use.

Use the song wall to help with introducing addition and subtraction etc . Students can count the buns onto the wall and then take it in turns to pay for a bun and take it off of the wall while singing the song. Included are larger buns so that students can use them to make a human ‘song wall’, as well as number posters to 5 with buns on, the song words sheet, number lines to 5 and subtraction number sentences with pictures to help with the subtraction (the students can cross off the amount required to help them find the answer). Could also be used for number bonds if some buns are put onto one end of the wall and the others at the other side.

Buy Clothes for Ed Sheeran - Students can develop their money recognition skills and using money to buy clothes for Ed with these activities. It is the equivalent of the old class shop, but revamped to be motivating using technology. It was designed for Secondary students with special needs, but can be easily used for all students. It is an age appropriate Money Math activity for secondary students, where they are motivated to purchase clothes for Ed. Once dressed they can listen to one of his songs using Youtube.
