This ‘T Shirt About Me’ art and writing activity, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker for both boys and girls. It’s a really creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to respond to 30 prompts and questions in a personal and imaginative way, using doodles, words, ‘graffiti style’ lettering and illustrations. **T shirt template 1: Art Activity ** There are 15 sections to illustrate responses to prompts, including: Self portrait, name, age, grade, favourite color, fruit, vegetable, sport, film, song… **T shirt template 2: Writing Activity ** There are 15 questions / prompts to respond to in written format, including: My top 3 goals this year, something I like at school, something I find challenging, if I were a superhero, I can make the world better by, I feel happy when, I feel sad when, I aim to, I wonder if… The T Shirt templates measure approximately 22 x 18cm / 8 x 7 inches and are designed to fit US Letter and A4 paper size for printing. The finished T shirts make a fabulous display, on the bulletin board or pegged up on a line as a garland. The designs are inspired by Piet Mondrian’s abstract work and the pack includes a poster and garland to make the classroom colourful and inspiring. Throughout the day, when your child or student makes a good decision in the home or classroom, instruct them to move their token/clip up the chart. When bad decisions are made, they move their token/clip down the chart. This visual allows the child to self-monitor his or her own behaviors. It is a particularly effective intervention when reinforced with rewards. For example, if you end the day in the purple or green area of the chart, you get a sticker or piece of candy. This intervention can be used throughout the whole day, but it is also effective for shorter durations or transitions. A common example for parents: if your child has difficulty following their bedtime routine, you can implement the chart at the start of the evening and offer a reinforcement right before bed if they end the night on the green or purple area of the chart. What are they thinking? - Inference, PSHE, Social and Emotional learning

this ‘What are they thinking?’ resource has 72 cards with a character or characters and a thinking bubble. The idea is that the child must come up with something that the character is thinking. Look at where the thinking bubble is pointing for those pictures with several characters. You can of course ask what they think the other characters are thinking, feeling or why they are behaving in that way. There is a whole range of emotions, body language, positive and negative behaviour cards included. This is a great inference tool for children to look carefully at what is happening in the picture or to look carefully at the facial expression or body language. Great for speech and language activities as well as social and emotional. Children will learn how to really look at something and analyse what they can see. They will learn to infer what is happening. This will help them with reading different situations in their everyday life and of course for reading comprehension activities. This is a ‘talking’ activity rather than a writing one but you could print the cards bigger, on A3 rather than A4, laminate them and they could be used with a dry wipe pen. They could be used for one to one working, small groups or circle-time. This is also a great ice-breaker resource to help warm up the child before working with them.

This is a complete programme of activities for children from yr 1 to yr 7. The activities cover a range of skills including speech and language, communication, social, fine motor and more. The programme is split into 5 stages and can be delivered 1:1 or in small groups. The programme is not linear and different stages can be used at different times depending on the age and the ability of the children it is being used with. Staff using the programme can set their own time frame for the length of each session and the duration of the programme. A full description of each activity is included and extension activities are also included as is an assessment sheet. Time will, initially, be needed to set up your play doh therapy pack ( printing and laminating ) but once a pack is created it can be used over and over again. A considerable amount of time has gone into this resource and I would be grateful if my work is acknowledged when used.

My Street - Story for students with learning difficulties. An all inclusive story.

I have outlined a couple of key features in the book. • I have given each character a name that starts with a different letter – student who sign can learn the signs for each character and recognise the letter for each. • I have numbered the houses from 1 to 10 giving students the opportunity to count, count out objects (maybe houses). • I have given each house a different colour so that students could be asked questions about colour of house. • I have given each character different colour clothes so that students can be asked about colour of clothes. • I have made the drawings simple and tried to make each character different – colour/style of hair etc so that students can comment on who that character is. • Each page contains a line/verse that has the same syllables/structure. I find students with special needs like the rhythm and structure of a book and can become engaged by this. I have found ‘Call and Response’ method of reading for students particularly engaging for vocal and non-vocal students. Read the line, then students (with staff) to read the same line. Sign each line which is good for non-vocal and vocal students also as they learn signs with repetition of each verse. • The book contains answer cards which I would like teachers/parents/guardians to cut out laminate and stick to answer laminate boards. Again very simple but give students the ability to comment on the following questions.  What is the colour of Luke’s house?  What colour is Hope’s clothes?  What number house does Max live in?  What does Tal like doing?  Who lives in house number 3?  Who likes playing football?  Use sentence strips to create short sentences ‘Tal lives in number 2’. ‘Tal likes to drum’. Students who are able to write can copy these sentences. • The concept of ‘he’ and ‘she’ can be difficult for some students and this can be discussed also ‘What does he like to do?’ etc. • Activities are so important for students with special needs and these characters are all doing activities that can be accessed by students during their lessons and using their experiences to engage and comment – experience activity, take photos include in literacy lessons etc.
