All About Me Back to School Pop Art Box & Task Cards

All About Me Back to School Pop Art Box & Task Cards

This ‘Pop Art Box About Me’ art and getting to know you resource, is a fun, first week back to school ice breaker for both girls and boys. It is a really creative way for teachers and students to learn more about each other. Invite students to create a unique ‘All About Me Box’, following the template prompts using Pop Art style doodles and words. Box prompts include: Age, name, grade, self portrait, favorite colors, favorite fruit, my top goal, I love… Students can then fill their boxes with a selection of question cards and work in pairs or small groups to explore their learning goals, aspirations, likes and dislikes. 36 question cards are included, along with blanks for students to have some fun and invent their own questions and games, for example, ‘Would you rather…’ Another task is to make a ‘card to myself’ with a message or goal, or a kind note for a friend. For example, students can give these to their teacher to open at the end of the year. The coloured, finished example included features a girl’s face. However the actual face template has a ‘generic bald head’ so both boys and girls can create a self portrait from this outline. Classroom Decor includes Pop Art inspired garlands and posters to colour and display. There are doodle pages to keep early finishers occupied. UK/Aus/Can spelling options of favourite and colour are included in the templates. Boxes measure 2.6 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches / 6.6 x 6.6 x 6.6cm when finished. The entire box template is designed to fit one sheet of US Letter or A4 sized paper. A larger box template is also included if you have access to an 11x14 or A3 printer. The finished boxes make a fabulous display, on the bulletin board, pegged up on a line as a garland or suspended from the ceiling with clear thread. Photographs of completed examples are included in the pack.

End of Year Activity - Summer Holiday Bucket List

Originally designed for lower primary (Year 1-3), this resource is a great way to get children to think about what they want to do in the holidays. They have 9 sentence starters eg On a rainy day I want to… On a hot day I want to … To keep learning I want to… and they have to make their own bucket list for the holidays. It could be adapted for higher year groups. Also a little pattern puzzle activity whereby each child gets to design a tile and it can be put together as a class piece of art work.

KARUMBA - THE ONLY MAJOR PORT ON THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF THE GULF OF CARPENTARIA AUSTRALIA

KARUMBA - THE ONLY MAJOR PORT ON THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF THE GULF OF CARPENTARIA AUSTRALIA

Through a series of 5 stories students will gain an understanding of the layout and function of this remote port. Many Australians are aware that Karumba exists but regard it as a destination for fishing for Barramundi and crocodile spotting. The “Gery nomads” - retired travellers usually towing caravans or arriving in motor homes - often put Karumba on their bucket list of places to visit. There is much more to Karumba than fishing and crocodile viewing. Take your students along the stretch of the Karumba Port near the mouth of the Norman River and there are large buildings which indicate other functions. Learn about Krys the crocodile of unbelievable proportions. Pass the rusting wreck in the mangroves and wonder how it arrived there. Go past the sign where cattle yards exist and recognise the prohibited access. Go past the dredge as it moves back into deeper water to dredge the channel from the deeper waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria and recognise by research how important that process to the population of the town. Look inland to discover the very large Century zinc mine at Lawn Hill and find out how it is connected to the zinc pellet processing plant at Karumba. Then, like the recent advertising programme from the local tourist operators, become aware of the environmental assets in landscape and a range of bird life. Understand why they have included their heading “There’s more to Karumba than fishing and crocodiles”. Find out why those visiting Karumba need to come in the cooler months of the year and avoid the hotter summer months. The attachments assist student understanding. The fill-in attachments could be used to support a type of tutorial approach where the numbered sections matching the page numbers could be screened and the students with some discussion could fill in the answers to provide a record of Karumba. Enjoy the excursion to Karumba but if you are involved in bird watching in the mangroves or on the lowland marshes on the entry road from Normanton, take time to read the warning -“crocodiles eat birds and bird watchers”.

This assembly is aimed at Lower Primary age range and through it children learn about the Hindu Festival of Makar Sankranti or Uttarayan. If you are in India in January, you are likely to find yourself amongst clusters of kites in the sky and most probably flying one! It is usually celebrated on the 14th of January however it is not uncommon to see excited families practicing their skills on roof tops for several days before. The children learn about some of the foods and traditions associated with this Kite Flying Festival.
