It could also be used as an introduction to guided writing. Students can write sentences as a class and share the sentences together and they can then write them on their own. Alternatively, students could work in pairs - one student dictates to the other what to write down about what they see in the picture.

Russian Assembly or Class Play

Russian Assembly or Class Play

Russian Assembly or Class Play Cast of 30 - easily adaptable up or down Duration - 10 - 20 minutes. (20 mins with inclusion of music suggestions and performances) Script can be further extended to include more information on the country. As always our narrator has his work cut out – kicking off assembly with having to keep bolshy Bolsheviks apart from arrogant tsars. Nothing bolshy about those Bolshoi ballerinas, fortunately - but who invited that mob of unruly Chelsea supporters along?! Normal formula of fun and laughter mixed in with a generous spattering of facts .. demonstrating just how much a country of contrasts Russia is. This script will be adapted to include longer reference to 2018 World Cup, nearer the time. Sample Text: Narrator: That’s better! Now let’s see. (Looking through script) What are a load of Chelsea Football supporters doing here in my Russian assembly? Supporter 1: Oh! Hadn’t you heard, mate? Supporter 2: Heard? Heard what? Supporter 3: That Chelsea Football Club is owned Supporter 4: By a Russian! Supporter 1: One Roman Obramovich! Supporter 2: One of the richest men in the world! Supporter 3: In charge of the greatest team in the world! (Half the cast boo and wolf whistle; and Narrator ushers supporters off before there is trouble) (Exit Chelsea supporters) Narrator: (Sighing) Oh dear! Nothing like lowering the tone of my assembly. It was all so lovely and cultured before that noisy lot turned up! (Enter 2 artists, Marc Chagall and Wassily Kandinsky, setting up their easels and painting, silently) Narrator: Ah! That’s more like it! The silent world of art! And who better to represent it than these two amazing Russian artists Marc Chagall: (Holding up picture of The Fiddler) Marc Chagall! Music 4 Fiddler on the Roof theme tune (Chorus from the musical could be performed either by the artist, Chagall, or someone else in the cast) Narrator: (Applauding) Wonderful! (To second artist, Wassily Kandinsky) And you, sir? Wassily Kandinsky: (Holding up Squares with Concentric Circles) Wassily Kandinsky Narrator: And this artwork is called? Wassily Kandinsky: Squares with Concentric Circles! Why do you look so surprised? Narrator: (Uneasily) Oh just expecting something …er. Em Wassily Kandinsky: (Angrily, snatching up his easel) A little more abstract?

Stalin's Russia 1924 - 41 Revision Flash Cards / Dingbats

Stalin's Russia 1924 - 41 Revision Flash Cards / Dingbats

These revision cards cover the key factors that you will need to know for Stalin's Russia 1924 - 41. They make an excellent fun starter, mini plenary or plenary to any lesson. They can also be used by students as revision flash cards. I've provided them in word so you can easily adapt them for your own classes. There are three main ways that you can use them. Game 1 involves getting students to read out the key words until the other guesses the topic correctly. Game 2 involves additional challenge and stretch by getting students to describe the topic without using any of the key words on the card. The third game, which adds an additional layer of fun or challenge involves playing a round of Pictionary or Charades. I normally give my students 3 minutes of each round to help activate the learning and warm up the class. You could also have a freestyle round where students decide which game they want to play linked to their learning style. If you are trying to engage some under achieving boys, add some competition and get them to keep score in the back of their books. I would recommend printing them off on card and getting your students to cut them out. Then put the cards into an envelope for class use. If you are a student then keep them in your pocket and use them as a flash card to help you learn the key facts, If there is a term that you do not understand then as your teacher or do some extra research. From a revision perspective, you can print off the cards and get your students to learn the key words for a test or for their exams. These are a win, win resource. The kids will love them and they will help to improve your results. If you like this resource then why not check out my other resources on this topic in my TES shop. You can also follow 'The History Academy' on Twitter, Google Plus, YouTube and Facebook for the latest updates or even to get in touch and chat about how you have used this resource or to ask questions. We aim to produce cheap and affordable resources for either the price of a good cup of coffee or a happy meal so that you can spend more time doing the things that you want. Suprematism described: in short quotes on Russian art-movement + images; for students and pupils

Suprematism described: in short quotes on Russian art-movement + images; for students and pupils

Suprematism described, and its Russian artists - in short quotes + art-images - free art-resource for students, pupils and art teachers . Russian Suprematism is her described and explained in short text-quotes. Most quotes here are taken from Dutch art-critic Jacob Bendien, in his book ‘Trends in the Present Day Art of Painting’. They combine very well with the PDF of Malevich. Suprematism started c. 1915/16 by founding artist Malevich. It was a more subtle art variation of earlier Constructivism, but essentially different; this resulted in firm art-debates between the two Russian art-movements. Suprematism’s most important goal was to express the ‘pure experiences / feelings of daily life in modern times’. For instance the experience of ‘flying’ in an airplane - as Malevich called this, as an example. . Some selected text-quotes of Jacob Bendien on Suprematism - as a short introduction of his extended quotes in the PDF: ’According to the Suprematists art is not only dependent on the nature of the artist, but also on the sort of environment from which it is produced. For instance: Cezanne - from a small provincial town, the Cubists and Futurists - from worldly cities and industry, and the Suprematists: planes / aviation.' ’The Suprematists are the poets of Constructivism. They are not blinded by rationalization like many of the Russian Constructivists.' ’The Suprematists want, where possible, to give feelings / emotions absolute supremacy. Even objects such as tables, chairs and beds are, according to Malevich, ‘not objects but the form of plastic perceptions… …the experiences of sitting, standing or walking are, in the first place plastic experiences’ . links for selected art-resources on Suprematism: for more artist-quotes on Suprematism by its artists: https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Suprematism for an extended description of Suprematism & good links: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suprematism for many characteristic art-images of Suprematist art: https://www.wikiart.org/en/Search/Suprematism . editor: Fons Heijnsbroek / Matrozenhof (FotoDutch on Wikiquote):<br>[http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/User:FotoDutch] translation from Dutch, Anne Porcelijn: [http://www.anneporcelijn.nl]

Chaim Soutine quotes, on his dynamic painting art & artistic life in France; for students and pupils

Chaim Soutine quotes, the painter on his painting art & artistic life in France - free art-resource for students, pupils and art teachers . In his artist-quotes Soutine expresses a. o. his strong adoration for Rembrandt. He tells about an inner cry from his youth, which he always tried to express in his painting art. Soutine has become famous by his many dynamic, wild, rough French landscapes, portraits and still life’s, painted with a visibly-raw gesture on the canvas. He traveled as young Russian artist already to Paris, and lived and worked with other young artists like Zadkine and his friend Modigliani. They all had their studio in the factory-building La Ruche in Paris. Soutine became specially famous for his characteristic dynamic landscape paintings. He kept himself far from French Cubism and Fauvism. . Some selected quotes of Chaim Soutine - as a short introduction of his extended quotes in the PDF: ’It is the first time in my life that I have not been able to do anything. I am in a bad state of mind and I am demoralized, and that influences me. I have only (made) seven canvases. I am sorry.’ - Soutine’s quote, from a letter to his Paris art-dealer Léopold Zborowski, 1923 ’You have no right to interfere with my art. Your wife is not your property. I need her, in order to finish my picture, I must have her! I will sue you! (to the husband of his model).’ - quote of Soutine, in: ‘Life with the painters of La Ruche’, Vorobëv Marevna, Macmillan, New York, 1972, p. 156 ’My paintings are a heap of shit, but better than Modigliani, Marc Chagall, and Krémènge (Russian companion-painter). Some day I will destroy my canvases, but they are too cowardly to do it.’ - quote, in ‘Soutine et son temps’, Emile Szittya, La Bibliothèque des Arts, Paris, 1955, p. 108 . links for selected art-resources on Chaim Soutine: biographical notes on Chaim Soutine, Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaim_Soutine artist-quotes of ànd about Soutine, Wikiquote: https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Chaim_Soutine images of the painting art of Chaim Soutine, Wikiart: https://www.wikiart.org/en/Search/Soutine . editor: Fons Heijnsbroek / Matrozenhof (FotoDutch on Wikiquote):<br>[http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/User:FotoDutch]

Malevich quotes: the Russian artist on his painting art & on Suprematism - for students and pupils

Malevich in quotes, on his painting art and Russian art-movement Suprematism - free art-resource for students, pupils and art teachers . In his quotes Malevich emphasizes the necessity to find and create forms which express the general human feelings / sensations. He uses the example of the airplane, as an expression of the experience of speed and not meant at all to transport goods! Malevich started as beginning artist already painting in a late-Impressionism painting style. He developed this soon into a radical abstract Constructivism art. In 1915 already Malevich published his famous manifesto ‘From Cubism to Suprematism’. Italian Futurism inspired him, as well as French Cubism; both art-movements he used as an inspiration, and combined them in his own art option: Suprematism. Later in his life Malevich turned back to an almost classical painting style. . Some selected quotes of Malevich - as a short introduction of his extended quotes in the PDF: ’I possess only a single bare, frame-less icon (his ‘Black Square’-painting) of our times - llike a pocket -, and it is difficult to struggle.’ - Malevich’s quote in his letter, May 1916; as cited by Jane A, Sharp, in ‘The great Utopia - The Russian and Soviet Avant-Garde, 1915-1932’; Guggenheim Museum, New York, 1992, p. 44 ’The square is not a subconscious form. It is the creation of intuitive reason. The face of the new art. The square is a living, regal infant. The first step of pure creation in art.’. - quote, in his text ‘From Cubism and Futurism to Suprematism: The New Realism in Painting’, Kazimir Malevich, November 1916 ’I paint energy, not the soul.’ - Malevich’s quote, c. 1916, in: ‘Khudozhniki na dispute ob AKhRR’, in ‘Zhizn,’ iskusstva 6 - transl.
