Taize Service Bundle

Taize Service Bundle

This an order of service in the style of Taize suitable for a longer assembly at primary or secondary school. This bundle includes a Microsoft Publisher version of the order of service as well as a very clear PDF format version. Additionally, there are copies of the prayer slips and alternative readings for slightly older students, both in Word format. The preparation for the service will vary, but there are two slots for students to perform relevant music if need be (alternatives are suggested). It is recommended for health and safety reasons that battery candles are used rather than candles with collars, if used in an assembly context. Icons drawn or designed by students could decorate the sacred space as well as the use of light and religious artifacts. It is also recommended that the chants (short and easy to learn) are rehearsed either in music or R.E. lessons as well as the appointment of a Cantor, which could be a good senior student with good vocal skills or an adult.

Role of the Church in Medieval England

Role of the Church in Medieval England

Lesson that looks at the role and power of the church. It also focuses on key terminology, such as sins and their meaning. Students study a painting and how it reflects the importance and use of religion. Sins are described in second powerpoint and can be printed out and scattered around the room for students to locate and try to simplify, this is also great for literacy.

End of term RE

End of term RE

A fun and creative RE project lesson for students in the last week of term. Could be used for activities week in Humanities or just as a reward lesson the last time you see your class for the summer. Very easy to set up - you will just need a few balloons, string, sellotape, cereal packets, felt tips and a any other boxes/construction materials you can find (just things that would usually be thrown in the recycling). The students work in small groups to research and recreate a famous religious landmark (info sheets and clip tasks included - all instructions on Powerpoint). The lesson can last as long as you want it to, and I gave prizes of sweets at the end for the best one - but that’s optional! My students really enjoyed it and we took pictures at the end for the school website. Hopefully yours will love it too. I’m going to be adding lots more free RE lessons over the coming months. Follow me to see when they’re uploaded! :)

You could print off the pictures and have a gallery to walk round, or print them off so they can work in groups or just have it as a vanilla PowerPoint. Lesson 2 - Get youngsters to create a presentation on Religion and Russia, could be done in the lesson and then presented for next lesson. Lesson 3 - Create a new World Cup logo and multi-faith area. Students could do it individually or as groups. BOOM!! Instant display for all the Open Evenings coming up. SLT will lap it up… Feel free to edit, mutate, mix-match the resources and I hope they are of some use. If this is the first time you have downloaded my resources, please be aware I am prone to typos.

NATRE Spirited Arts RE lessons 2018

NATRE Spirited Arts RE lessons 2018

This is a set of 7 lessons, 8+ if you include the lesson for students to begin developing their piece of art work, to get students thinking about some of the NATRE Spirited Arts 2018 Themes. All lessons have at least one learning objective and some outcomes based on mastery skill levels/bands. There are 2 lessons on the ‘Holy Spaces’ theme, these are the first two within the PowerPoint. The first is pilgrimage and considering how and why places of pilgrimage are holy spaces then the second is a church lesson, why is this a holy space for Christians, with the opportunity for students to design their own church/holy space. The second theme is the ‘Pray! (Reflect! Meditate!)’ theme, there are 3 lessons on this theme. The first is a lesson on can songs be prayers linking to Tupac Ghetto Gospel, the second is using Bruce Almighty and the prayer focus within this film, what would happen if everyone got everything they wanted etc. The third is on Buddhist meditation to give a bit of religious varity and to show that different religions pray in different ways and if you have spare material students can create their own prayer flag. The third theme is the theme of ‘Faith and Doubt’, there are 2 lessons on this, an introduction to philosophy and how big questions can lead to doubt within religion and then an evil and suffering lesson.
