We seek to appoint an exciting and inspirational tutor, with ambition to achieve the very best possible outcomes for educationally disadvantaged students. This is an exciting opportunity to teach in a school where staff are supported and encouraged to thrive and develop. Blatchington Mill School is a superb place to work.

We are an ambitious school and we believe that every child can succeed. Some students face more barriers in their learning, and receive additional funding in order to ensure they make good progress and learn securely. Students have also faced the added issue of months away from school and this has affected some students more than others. The government has provided catch up funding to support schools in helping those students make progress. This money is often spent on tutoring of a low standard, or via agencies, where the quality of provision is variable and the agency fee means the resource isn’t targeted to the student in need. We wish to ensure this resource is used to employ a tutor with high standards who will ensure students thrive. If this challenge sounds like one you would relish, then please apply to join us in creating an ‘ethic of excellence’ for all our students.

Blatchington Mill is a ‘Good’ school that strives to stretch our most able, and support our most vulnerable. We innovate in the classroom, placing huge value on evidence-informed professional development. We work in partnership with schools locally and nationally and believe in collaboration and school-led improvement.

We welcome applications from all parts of our community as we aspire to have a staff body that matches the social and cultural diversity of our student intake.

If you would like to join us, then please read the accompanying person specification and job description and consider whether you possess:

  • A track record of positive impact upon student outcomes
  • Knowledge and experience of tutoring English and Maths, and ideally a competency in a number of subjects
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and resilience
  • High expectations of all students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

If you are interested in applying for this role please complete and return an application form before the closing date (CVs alone cannot be considered).

Interview date:  TBC

Blatchington Mill School is committed to safeguarding our students; we expect all staff and volunteers to support this commitment.  Criminal record checks will be carried out and a full, enhanced DBS clearance is required for all positions.

Applications are encouraged from black and ethnic minority candidates, as these groups are under-represented on the school's staff.

Ofsted Report

“Leadership, including governance, is good and improving. Shared ambitions ensure that senior leaders and middle managers have high expectations for the school. As a result, student outcomes have improved continuously since the previous inspection. Students do well in their GCSE examinations, especially in science, humanities, languages and performing arts. The development of students’ numeracy and literacy skills is particularly strong across the curriculum … Students’ behaviour is excellent as shown in high levels of concentration in lessons and in the way they take responsibility for their own learning.”
