King Edward VI School is a leading HMC Independent day school for children aged 11 – 18. King Edward’s is a school with a long and distinguished history and it has been at the heart of Southampton for over 460 years. The School has occupied 4 different sites, relocating to the purpose built site on Hill Lane in 1938. It became fully independent in 1979 and co-educational in 1994.

King Edward’s is proud of its reputation for academic and co-curricular achievement and is a forward thinking, vibrant and dynamic environment in which to teach and learn.

We aim to prepare students for a rapidly changing world. The School has long had a reputation for impressive academic results but, while essential for future success, we also encourage pupils to develop a wide range of skills and interests. We combine the pursuit of academic excellence with a range of opportunity and challenge to develop self-confident and independent young people who have a strong sense of community and will become responsible and reflective future leaders. High quality teaching, a strong sense of belonging and the space to grow and achieve full potential is what we offer at King Edward’s.

The School continues to invest in its facilities and opened a new Theatre, Art Department and VI form Centre in September 2017. Over £20 million worth of investment has taken place over the past decade with a new sports ground and pavilion at the Wellington Sports Ground, an outward bound centre on Dartmoor, complete refurbishment of all classrooms and laboratories, new music facilities and extensive IT provision including the adoption of 1:1 technology for all pupils.
