The Principal invites experienced boarding staff to apply for the position of Assistant Houseparent. DLD College London is an independent co-educational College situated in the heart of London overlooking Westminster and the river Thames. DLD College is one of only a few boarding schools in Central London with boarding on site, and we have around 500 students from 52 different countries, of which 250 are boarders. This is a vibrant and diverse environment, offering ample opportunity for professional development and growth.
Assistant Houseparents will be required to work within a rota taking day, evening, and weekend shifts. Duties include supervising the students during study time and meal times, assisting boarding staff with curfew checks, and travelling with students on sightseeing tours and activities. Assistant Houseparents will also be attached to a ‘Huddle’ – a group of boarders organised by floor, gender and age, but will work throughout the boarding house at DLD.
Applicants must have a friendly and enthusiastic manner, be comfortable working independently, and be willing to learn. Initiative, flexibility and experience of working with young people, ideally in an education setting, are essential. Applicants with a second language are strongly encouraged to apply.

Person Specification
- Experience of working with children and young adults (aged 14 – 19), ideally in an education setting;
- Personal effectiveness; good organisational skills and time management; integrity and fairness;
- Demonstrate a friendly and approachable manner and competence in working with students and staff;
- To be able to engage with and be proficient in the use of technology.
Job Description
To take duties within the boarding staff rota to supervise and support students and staff during weekend shifts.
The duties include:
- Supervising students during breaks and meal times; taking meals with students when necessary;
- Supervising students during study time offering basic assistance where necessary;
- Assisting Boarding Staff with nightly curfew checks & supervising boarding students overnight (sleeping duty);
- Taking tours of the boarding house for current and prospective parents and students;
- Taking part in the Induction Programmes for staff and students;
- Carrying out basic administrative tasks to support the boarding staff and the management of the building;
- Following college policies and procedures for ensuring the wellbeing of the students and the proper management of the boarding facility;
Administration
- Maintaining detailed records of issues arising during your shift
- Providing oral or written information on students as requested by other members of staff
- Attendance at departmental meetings & training sessions

DLD College London, affectionately known as DLD, is a multi-award-winning boarding and day school in the heart of London opposite the Houses of Parliament and close to Waterloo and South Bank. DLD was founded in 1931 by Davies, Laing & Dick to provide tutoring for Oxbridge and the Colonial Service entrance exams. Checks and Training
• Enhanced DBS checks to ascertain your suitability to work with children will be carried out. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers, including those regarded as ‘spent’ must be declared.
