We are looking to appoint a part-time, permanent Deputy Head Teacher (QTS) / SENDCo from April 2023, working three days a week (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday), 43 weeks a year, under The Burgundy Book employment conditions.

Thomas Coram Centre and Nursery School is an outstanding maintained nursery school situated in a beautiful leafy campus in central London near Kings Cross and Russell Square. The school has a long history of being at the cutting edge of early year’s education and we pride ourselves on providing an exciting, stimulating and play-based learning environment for up to 140 children aged 2-4 years old.

The successful candidate will have: 

  • At least three years’ teaching experience working with young children (including children from two to five years old).
  • Experience of working in a school –based middle or senior leadership role.
  • A thorough understanding of the importance of child-centered, play based learning.
  • A sound understanding of the Special Needs Code of Practice and current experience of successfully implementing it in an early years setting.
  • A clear understanding of the needs of children from ethnic minorities, including children who are bi or multi-lingual.
  • The ability to work under pressure with energy and enthusiasm.

The position is currently non-class based, although there will be some teaching commitment. 

The school is open from 8.30am-5.30pm, Monday-Friday, for 44 weeks of the year and takes children from two years to five years. This post involves working 215 days throughout the year- taking some holidays flexibly.

Thomas Coram Centre and Nursery School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment checks including; safeguarding, an enhanced DBS check, references and the right to work in the UK.

In line with KCSIE 2022 and safer recruitment practices, the school will also conduct an online search for all shortlisted candidates. The online search is part of our safeguarding checks and will seek publicly available information on candidates’ suitability to work with children.
