Job overview

We are looking for a successful leader to join our highly effective executive team. Taking strategic ownership of education, the successful candidate will be pivotal in driving the realisation of the school strategic plan.

You will lead, inspire and drive change

The Deputy Principal will work directly under the Principal and be able to provide the day to day operational management of the school enabling the Principal to focus on strategic and outward facing work. You will provide a strategic and operational lead to a team of teachers and teaching assistants to ensure high quality provision for all of our pupils; to develop the curriculum and to form and sustain external partnerships. As a key member of the executive leadership group, you will lead on developing, implementing and monitoring policies and practice to ensure the aims and objectives of the school are achieved. You will play a key role in the school’s self-evaluation processes actively seeking opportunities to improve and develop the school further. As a qualified teacher you will have a depth of experience across a number of key stages. A thorough understanding of children and young people, how they learn, the importance of the role therapy plays in this learning, and a passion to improve their life chances are essential.

Meath and Speech and Language UK

At Meath, we aim for a culture where speech and language challenges do not prevent young people from achieving their learning and communication potential, building an independent life and contributing to society.

Our exciting and stimulating learning environment supports children to Talk, Learn and Grow, with a curriculum co-designed by teachers and Speech and Language Therapists. We strive to work together with parents and families to ensure that children’s educational, social, emotional, spiritual and physical needs are met and developed as fully as possible. We also offer home from home tailored residential support which provides a safe and nurturing environment for pupils to develop independence, social and self-care skills.

Meath, is one of a very few schools in the UK which is tailor made for young learners with speech and language challenges. The school and residential settings have been recognised repeatedly as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted since 2008.

We are Speech and Language UK – we want every child to face the future with confidence. For 1.7 million children in the UK, learning to talk and understand words feel like an impossible hurdle. Without the right help, this can destroy their world. They feel disconnected from their family. Unable to make friends. Unfairly punished for not following instructions they don’t understand. What does the future hold for them?

We must reach children earlier, to make sure every child has the skills to face the future. We design innovative tools and training for thousands of nursery staff and teachers. We give families the confidence and skills to help their child. And we put pressure on politicians to prioritise support for children. Too many children are left waiting to be understood. Help us bring speech and language skills into the spotlight so they can all flourish

If you are interested in the position please contact Majella Delaney, Principal, to discuss the role further on 01932 872302 or to book a school visit.

To apply please send a completed application form (please see attached candidate pack) to sbm@meathschool.org.uk by 12pm on Monday, 28th November. Interviews will be taking place w/c 5th December 2022.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we carry out safer recruitment principles, as well as appropriate vetting and verifications on all school staff.
