Director of Inclusion (Whole School SENCO)

Full Time, permanent role, commencing September 2021

Salary – United Learning Pay Scale (competitive)

William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) is a vibrant, multicultural 3-18 academy that welcomes staff and children from all backgrounds and beliefs.  We are committed to ensuring that all children receive a first-class education that prepares them thoroughly for the future and allows them to play an active role in the life of the school and wider community.

We have an opportunity for a Director of Inclusion (Whole School strategic SENCO) to be responsible for providing the leadership of the provision for students with Special Educational Needs (SEND) across all phases of the school, including the Resourced Provision, in order to ensure that these students make excellent progress.

Reporting to the Principal and working closely with the Primary Phase Headteacher and Vice Principals, the post-holder will lead, manage and effectively deploy staff and resources within the SEND provision, monitor and evaluate the development of learning and teaching strategies for students with SEND and ensure that staff are provided with relevant information and training relating to the support of these students.  In addition, the post-holder will be responsible for raising standards of attainment and achievement for SEND students in all year groups.

As a qualified teacher and outstanding practitioner, you will be expected to teach and this will be based upon your teaching experience to date.  You will deliver consistently good and outstanding lessons, be an excellent team player with the highest standards of professionalism and expectations of students.

You will be joining a department of dedicated and committed colleagues who champion pupils with SEND.  The team has a range of skills, knowledge and expertise: the department has a qualified SPLD Teacher and teams led by Specialist LSAs in the Primary and Secondary Phases.  In recent years, the school has expanded its facilities to include a Resourced Provision and additional rooms for bespoke interventions, teaching and meetings.

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the use of ICT and will have a proven track record of leadership, line management and pastoral care.

William Hulme's Grammar School is Greater Manchester’s Second most over-subscribed school and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country.  It is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1500 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds and is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life-changing education to children and young people across England.

United Learning schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resources, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed.  We invest in our staff wellbeing.  Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
